Days had passed, three to be exact and Nick was still unconscious. Nicole had tried virtually everything. She tried teas, she tried spells, and she even tried her hand at praying while still vaguely familiar with Christianity but nothing worked. Her daughter wouldn't wake up.

The only word to describe the way she felt was lost. Everything felt backward, bad things were happening to the wrong people. She should've been on that bed, not Nick. She should've known there was something wrong.

"I don't know what to do anymore." She whispered to herself, her head gently resting in the palms of her hands.

"Yes, you do." A voice pulled her out of the stricken despair. Benny stood next to the kitchen counter, his arms crossed over his chest. His face was pensive and upset, he'd been sitting by Nick since Jerry told him what happened.

Nicole rose from her warm hands, the red puffiness of her eyes making Benny wince. "What are you talking about?"

The boy wiped under his nose as if he couldn't speak too loud because someone was listening. "There's one thing you haven't tried." He offered, placing a cold hand on Nicole's shoulder.

She knew what he was talking about.

"Are you crazy?" Nicole's face contorted with disbelief, jerking Benny's hand away from her. "Why would you suggest that?"

Benny looked mildly irritated. "We don't have a choice. You've tried everything and you've come up short every single time. This is rock bottom."

"I would never do that to her!" The frumpiness of the woman's clothes grew wilder as she thrashed away from the familiar. "My mother did it to me and I almost died!"

"But you didn't! This is Nick we're talking about, not some random teenage girl who needs help."

"You don't think I know that?!" Her words tapered off in a quiet sob, all the emotion bubbling back up. Helpless wasn't a good enough explanation. With tears streaming down her face, Nicole collapsed to the floor with her back against the wall, literally and figuratively.
