Nick woke up that morning to something bothering her. She couldn't pinpoint where that discomfort had begun but it was here now and she wasn't having it. Pulling the covers off her body, the Iron Man pajama pants she was wearing had started to shift down her leg.

A sudden urge fell over her, like something was wishing to be seen but it wasn't in her room. She stood up from her bed, pushing on her slippers and dragging her feet to the door. The air in her chest began to thin as she realized her parents had left a while ago that morning.

Whatever was out there waiting for her, she had to deal with it on her own.

As she came upon the backyard door, she stepped down onto the grass. There wasn't much going on apart from the sound of lawnmowers and barking dogs over the tall fence. The open door swayed in the breeze before it slammed shut from an unknown gust of wind.

Nick jumped back, her foot pushing up against her father's grill behind her. Her breathing steadied for a moment after as nothing happened when she thought it would.

But then, she was suddenly shrouded in darkness. Not in the way that meant she had passed out but almost like the world went dark. Her eyes were open and she was still standing up, but everything was gone. Just emptiness, a void of nothing as far as the eye could see.

Air tickled the back of her neck softly, lifting the small hair that played under her ponytail. She couldn't help her want to turn around but if there was nothing in this void, that meant nothing should be able to create wind.

She wasn't as alone as she thought she was.

Nick slowly began to turn her body, surveying the area. It wasn't exactly pitch black, like being in a room with the lights off but it was like being in a room with black walls. She just couldn't touch these walls.

She felt a brush on her neck again but it was different this time. It was a breath.

Nick wanted to reach behind herself, grabbing whatever it was so that it wouldn't run off when she tried to look at it but she didn't. Instead, she turned around, coming face-to-face with a woman.
