Olivia's POV
I just discovered how freakishly long my second toe is compared to my big toe. It's a bit longer than my big toe, while my other toes are shorter? I grabbed my camera beside me and zoomed in through the lens to see if my speculations were accurate. The more I zoom in on my feet, the more disoriented I feel. For fuck's sake, I might just be seeing things. I've been hanging upside down from the edge of my bed for 10 minutes straight staring at my toes, so the blood being rushed to my head is finally catching up to me. I started to get up until I got rudely interrupted by smoke blowing in my face.
"Stop staring at your toes and smoke the rest of this weed with me." My best friend Kai mumbled to me.
We have smoked so many times today that I couldn't even count. We started at 10AM, and it is now 12PM.
"Kai, I leave in like 20 minutes and already high as a fucking kite right now. Is this your grand scheme? To get me so high I can't even step foot on campus without looking like an idiot?" I said sitting up to face him. He was on my bed but the opposite way up against my headboard.
"Maybe..." He trailed off cracking a smile to which we both started laughing.
Kai is one of my favorite people on planet earth. We've been friends for as long as I can remember. We did everything together but our favorite thing to do was to get high. We weren't like addicts but on some occasions we'd get high. Mainly after tests or even celebrations but it wasn't an everyday thing. While Kai was pretty much known in high school, he was never the one for college; he always talked about staying in this shit town and pursuing a tattoo career. So I think now that I'm finally leaving, he's sad.
"Oh come on, I get it. I'm leaving you but I'll see you over breaks. Don't act like that." I said playfully pushing his arm.
"I know but you do know you're like the only person in this town I actually like, right?"
"Get a girlfriend. You're wasting your looks, you know? You're kind of hot." I said, smirking while walking my fingers up his shirt seductively. He smacked my hand off him almost immediately and I couldn't help but laugh.
"First of all, never say that to me again... That just felt like my sister was trying to get in my pants," He said as he shivered just from the thought of it. "And second, you already know I don't do girlfriends." He mumbled while he pushed my head back into a pillow.
Oh yeah, I forgot Kai was never the one for commitment. Throughout grade school when everyone was experiencing their first relationships and walked around the hallways like they were glued, he was never interested. And Kai was quite attractive. He stood at about 5'11 with a lean body. He had a fair skin tone with a blonde buzz cut paired with bushy eyebrows and a deep scar across his right eye. And unlike any man I've ever met, Kai was a gentleman. The type to hold doors for women, keep his word, pump your gas, all the sappy shit, you know? Don't get me wrong, he had sex with girls just like any other straight teenage boy but he'd never disrespect them. He was always straightforward with his intentions, which made girls love him more. So he had no problem in the personality department but had his own shit to figure out. So in the meanwhile, he lived by his 'no strings attached' motto.
"Ok, well figure out some type of entertainment before I get back, will ya?" I shoved his shoulder while putting my camera in my bag and heading for the door. "I love you so much, now bye!" I cooed while holding his face and squeezing it until he pulled away.
"I told you to stop grabbing my face like that." He whined. "Oh and if any guy messes with you, I'll beat the living shit out of them." He said with a straight face.
"Ugh, you could be so poetic sometimes. You know that?" I scoffed in a sarcastic tone while putting my hand to my heart like that was just the most beautiful thing I had ever heard.
"I'm being dead serious."
"I wouldn't doubt it," I said while closing my door, leaving him alone in my room.
Overprotective shit.

"Baby, you're like lightnin' in a bottle, I can't let you go now that I got it!" I sang to the top of my lungs in the passenger seat of my dad's car with my legs stretched out on the dashboard. "And all I need is to be struck by your electric loveeee-" I was cut off by the speakers going mute.
"Olivia please, you've been singing since we left the house. All I want is 30 minutes with peace." My dad pleaded with me as he disconnected my Bluetooth. I probably would've started an argument if I wasn't so high off my ass right now. He's been so cranky the whole summer leading up to me going off to college and today was move-in day. He's usually so sweet, but he just seemed off after my high school graduation. The things we used to do together, he just stopped. He started getting distant with me and the only time we'd have a full conversation was if it was about university. I barely spent time with him this summer because he's been in this funk. It's seriously starting to get on my nerves.
"Yeah dad, whatever," I mumbled while staring at the trees as they went by. My university was about 5 hours away and we'd only been on the road for 2. It's like time only decides to go slow when I want it to go fast? So for the remainder of the trip, I just decided to sleep. What better way to run from your frustrations than to sleep? But if I'm going to sleep, I need music. I rummaged through my bag to find my headphones but they weren't there. That can't be... I always have them with me. I started to throw everything out of my bag onto the floor frantically.
"What's going on? What are you looking for?" My dad said concerned while switching between looking at me and the road.
"My headphones! Have you seen them?"
My dad stares at me while trying not to let a smile escape.
"What's funny? You know how much they mean to me!"
"What's funny is you're losing your goddamn mind and they're on your head." He finally cracked a smile. I haven't seen that smile in what felt like forever. I slowly touched my head feeling the headband of the headphones. I sighed and chuckled to myself. I really need to stop smoking Kai's weed, I swear it makes me go insane but like in a good way that I enjoy it.
Note to self: Find out who Kai's dealer is.
I clicked play on my playlist and started to drift away, dreaming about finally stepping onto campus, where my new life begins.
