The campus was beautiful; I nearly died at the sight of it. I immediately took my camera and pointed it towards the big bold letters Westbrook University sitting engraved into a thick curved brick wall leading to the entrance. As we pull into the entrance, students hold a big poster reading 'Welcome Home Bears' with burnt orange and navy blue colors splattered across it. They handed out pamphlets with the campus map to every car they saw, which I was eager to grab. I hurried and snapped a picture of the poster with a small smile coming onto my face. Giant oak trees surrounded the campus walkways, sprouting branches in every direction.

"Do you like it?" I asked my dad without even taking my eyes off the campus.

"Yeah, it's great." My dad whispered. The crack in his voice didn't go unnoticed.

As I turned to face him, my smile dropped instantly. "Dad, what's going on?" I mumbled.

"Nothing, it's fine. Uh, where's your dorm? Is it on the right or left side of campus?" He said, pointing in either direction.

There it is again. It's been this way all summer. He'd show a bit of emotion and then cut me off completely. It's really starting to hurt my feelings but I don't care if he doesn't. I refuse to let this day be ruined by him. Not today. It can't be today. I pointed to where my pamphlet tells me 'Freedom Hall' is. Apparently, it's a girl's dorm and the next best thing to co-ed. I wanted co-ed but they only allowed a certain amount of first-year students in.

The second the car stopped, I found myself jumping out of the vehicle. I just needed some space. I didn't even want him to help me unload, I just needed him gone.

"I can get the bags myself, it's fine." I told my dad before he even had the chance to unbuckle his seatbelt.

"You sure? I can-"

"Yeah, you can get a head start on the drive home... I'll unpack and send you pictures." I cut him off quickly. I start to unload my things one by one, placing them on the concrete. Luckily, I didn't have a lot of things because I was obsessed with traveling light. I give my dad the thumbs up, indicating that I'm done unloading and before my dad drives off, I could've sworn I saw a teardrop escape his eyes...

The Freedom Hall was indeed beautiful as I expected. When you walk in, two sweet old ladies at the front desk are smiling and handing out keys. Different colored desks and chairs fill the lobby with huge paintings covering the walls. My favorite part was the big plants in each corner where a name tag occupied its front. I'll have to learn their names later.

I went to get a key as laughter filled the air and snapped me back to reality. I turn around to see girls already with their group of friends. It's the first day; no one is supposed to have friends. As I walk more into the hall, I realize how clicky everyone is. No one is talking to no one outside of their already-formed groups. Oh god, I really hope this isn't like high school.

I finally make it to my dorm room when I hear what sounds like "Wait a Minute" by Willow Smith blasting through some speakers. Great, my roommate is already here... I dig my keys from my pocket and twist them into the keyhole. I really hope she's likable.

"I don't even care, oh! Run my hands through your hair, you wanna run your fingers through mine," She screamed as she bumped into a dresser, "But my dreads too thick and that's all right!" She sang while running her fingers through her locs, swaying her body. I wanted to introduce myself but I didn't interrupt her. She looked pretty cool from the back. She was brown skin with thick locs going down to her butt. Her locs were amazing, I wonder how long she had them. She was on the smaller side and looked about 5'5.
