Pick up the phone, pick up the phone.

"Hello?" Kai answered the Facetime call with his eyes low. Did he smoke again?

"You literally don't like anyone else, what's with the slow answering?" I questioned.

"Believe it or not, I do actually have a life outside of you." He said, smiling smugly.

"Yeah, whatever. Look, guess who I just fucking saw." I fumed walking back and forth within my dorm while Nat sat on her bed eating popcorn looking at me like her favorite show was on. Before he could answer, "Gwen!" I screamed.

His low eyes had now budged from their sockets, "You're joking."

"I swear on my life and she was a total cunt. You know she pretended like she didn't even know me? Straight up ignored me and then some blonde bitch started to defend her and-" I couldn't continue as I got cut off.

"Ok, breathe. Just shut up and breathe for a second. Let me process this." He sighed, "So Gwen, our ex-best friend goes to your school and pretends not to know you?"

"That's what I just said Kai. Please keep up." I said frustrated waving my hands around.

"I know but I had to confirm. Look, I just smoked a blunt and you're saying some really crazy shit right now so like my head is exploding." He said as he made his hands mimic an explosion. I smiled; he always knew how to make me laugh when overwhelmed. "But seriously, that's insane."

"Right? Well, fuck her since it's going to be like that."

"You don't mean that. You love Gwen." Kai said, confused.

"Well duh Kai, I'm just saying that- You know what, call me back when you're sober so you can actually comprehend the conversation because you're making me angry," I said as I hung up leaving him no room to speak further. I flopped on my bed and buried my head in my pillow.

"Yeah, fuck her." I hear Nat say suddenly. I look up from my pillow to see her shrugging her shoulders. I started to smile and she smiled back. "No but seriously, you seem like a great friend, so whoever doesn't see that is lost."

"Thank you, I needed that.."

"No problem, ice cream? Ice cream always puts me in a better mood." She took out a carton of cookies and cream from her fridge offering it with a spoon. I nodded with a smile.

As soon as I got the carton, I took a big scoop out of it, biting straight into it letting the coldness hit my two front teeth. Nat looked at me like I had just gone insane.

"I know you're angry, but biting into ice cream is despicable." She gasped with a look of horror on her face. I knew she was trying to cheer me up, so I just gave her a soft smile.

"Hey, if it makes you feel any better, we were invited to a party," Nat said with a hopeful tone.

"By who?" I questioned, stuffing ice cream into my mouth.

"The boys from earlier," Nat gushed. "Well actually, Ian invited me. But you're invited too." I was confused until I remembered... We must have gotten invited when I left to see Gwen.

"I don't know." I said unsure.

"I think it'll be fun. It's just a little something before classes start," She said. "I think it'll get your mind off the ex-friend situation."

She might be right. "Uh ok, sure. I'll go." I mumbled.

"Great!" Nat cheered as she got another spoon from her cabinet. Before I knew it, we were sharing the ice cream. It was quiet but a comfortable silence, just the sound of our spoons digging into the carton.
