Sweet child heed to my cautious warning,

else your parents will suffer eternal mourning.

Stay inside the garden and do not wander

as the demons will take you; your life will be squandered.

But the nanny is inside concocting some tea

and a strange buzzing noise calls to thee.

The child looks up and is speechless with wonder.

Little does he know that, he is making a blunder.

At the edge of the garden dances a shimmering light,

all golden and glowing, a marvellous sight.

The child forgets his nanny’s order

as he opens the gate and crosses the border.

The light is illuminating the child’s path

and enchanted he follows and whoops and laughs.

What a delightful, exciting new game,

thinks the boy as he trots further away.

He enters the forest so thick and deep,

whilst his nanny discovers his absence and weeps.

He follows the light like a dog and its master.

The light zooms away and the boy proceeds faster.

The demon guides the boy over each mossy log

before leading him into a vast, peat bog.

The child cries out as he starts to sink

He dies and the Will O Wisp pauses to drink.

Until at last it shines brighter with the boy’s soul

it is satisfied for it has achieved its goal.

Do not underestimate the creatures of hell

Do not be bewitched by the stories they tell.

Heed my warning and do not trust the unknown.

For this tale is gruesome but it has shown

that the soul of a human is what these creatures crave

and their deception could lead you to your grave…
