A/N: Just a point this is an entirely different world and story to Everlasting Visions :)

I sighed as I gazed down upon the lake which I had been ordered to investigate and cleanse. Even in this form I felt disgusting, my hair hung in wet strands, my face was sore, my lungs were burning, my clothes stank of damp and I was even in the human realm any more...

It was a truly crap day even by my standards.

Most people believe that the world is full of humans and animals, we co-exist, lead our lives have children and die and the cycle repeats. Only that’s not the case in my world. My world is overrun with paranormal creatures and by that I mean vampires, werewolves, fey, sirens, kelpies, demons and more.

Sounds magical right?

It’s not.

Most paranormal creatures such as vampires and werewolves adapt to the rules of the Ley Association and in return are left to their own devices. Others however do not and that’s where I step in.

The Ley Association is my place of work, whenever the ley lines are charged (usually after a storm) new paranormal creatures can enter the world.

I’m an agent also known as a cleanser. Whenever a paranormal starts acting out and causing problems I investigate it and if needs be send the creature back where it belongs, in other words I kill it.

Today my assignment had been to take down a kelpie. For those who don’t know a kelpie is a kind of demon rated a level three, (five is the worst). Kelpies usually take on the form of humans and lure innocent humans to their habitat; usually a lake, then they transform into their true form (a water horse) and drag their prey to the bottom of the lake which naturally kills them.

I hadn’t been overly enthusiastic about today’s assignment; I had finally scored myself a date with a hot guy who worked in the general store. His name was Sam and he was lovely, most evenings we’d spent texting and face-booking and today we had planned on going on a date, only I’d had to cancel. He hadn’t replied and I’d got on with my assignment.

The kelpie had proven particularly difficult to tame, you see the only way they can be defeated is by tossing a bridle over their neck. I’d reached the lake just as it was luring an innocent woman to the lake, it was playing the part of a drowning child, and it’d nearly succeeded.

Thankfully I’d stepped in, the creature had transformed in front of the woman which meant I’ had to call someone from the Ley Association to take her to the facility and wipe her memory, I’d been left with the beast who was incredibly annoyed at my snatching it’s dinner from under its nose.

It had bucked and roared using it’s mane to restrain me and drag me down into the lake where I had nearly died.I’d pulled out a knife and cut through the mane before tossing the bridle over its neck.

There was only one problem, a teeny tiny little glitch that I had not been warned about.

Once you sit on a Kelpie you can never get free.

The Kelpie was tamed for now but I was still trapped on it's back, I screamed as it eased itself back into the water and swam down to the bottom of the lake.

Three bubbles escaped my lips and rose to the surface. For the first time in months I thought about my family, my friends, my work colleagues...

The world was becoming hazy, the water shimmered and danced before my eyes. My eyes closed of their own accord, the light faded to darkness and...I left the world.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a tunnel, slowly I walked forwards, embracing the white light which waited for me at the end.

I sighed as I looked down on the lake which I had been ordered to cleanse.

I may have died in there, but at least I had died a hero...
