Mary Jane Reynolds is dragged to Palmetto State by the ear. Her twin sister refuses to let them be split up, and despite how little MJ wants to attend college, she goes anyways.
She joins the cheerleading team because Allison joins the exy team, and she needs someone to cheer her on from the sidelines.
That's all Mary Jane has ever done—— cheered from the sidelines. She's never lived for herself, but she supposes that's just part of being genetically linked to someone much brighter, much bigger. She didn't have much of a chance, Mary Jane had always been trailing after Allison, even at birth.
Mary Jane finds solace in the cheerleading team, and slowly finds herself standing on her own two feet, with no shadow casting over her. With friends who like her for herself, and a sport she can actually throw herself headfirst into.
But then . . .
But then, her sister's boyfriend dies in suspicious circumstances. Mary Jane had watched Allison check his pockets and come up empty, none of the drug that killed him on his body. And suddenly she's sucked into the drama of the Palmetto State Foxes Exy Team, back to being a shadow on her sister's arm.
The most annoying part has to be the fact that the star player on the team keeps looking at her. Allison has always been the one who attracted eyes, but Kevin never gives her a second glance. It's infuriating and thrilling at the same time.
Mary Jane doesn't want to involve herself with someone who'll just make her another shadow. The ex-heiress has no drama comparable to the secrets Kevin Day has stored.
