<3. cottage cheese

a/n-this is honestly a bit gorey, i kinda got too invested, but i did warn you at the start of the book :)

yuzuha and angry were taking turns guarding each other, both sheltered in the dark and in the shadows of the building. angry was quietly snoozing away, twitching a bit while yuzuha tiredly keeps her heavy lids open, staring at the moon, humming a tune under her breath.

they decided to wait 'till it was morning to search for their siblings, and they were tired, limbs feeling like they were going to detach from exhaustion and woah she dozed off for a second. she remembers souya's words about waking him about if she was tired, but she decided against it, she'd rather not wake up the poor boy who was just able to go to sleep.

her teeth graze her cheek as she thinks about her brother who was probably crying for her help internally, or maybe he was de-no she shouldn't think about stuff like that, she's supposed to keep a positive outlook-hello?! she was the older one.

eyes look back at angry, switching her mind to his twin brother, who honestly scared her (and her brother though he would never admit it). her face grimaces at his messy habits and fights she has witnessed, always questioning how a devil of a brother got angry who was the complete opposite.

she yawns tiredly before deciding to slump against the moist brick wall, steps over their head, feeling her eyes flicker like a light, fingers threading through her ginger hair that was starting to tangle and clump together, wincing as she tugs on her hair.

"hmm i wonder what taiju's doing?"

her heart hammers a bit, but she's pretty sure it isn't from the guilt of feeling little to no remorse over her older brothers...or maybe she was feeling a bit of something. she just wishes she can go to sleep rather than think about anything- quick she has to change her mind, so she doesn't have a mental breakdown about her feelings.

pupils focus on the next thing that comes into her sight-the winking stars from above, watching her from heavenly space, watching the people below like a tv-show. her fingers subconsciously reach out for her arrows which she treasured.

she carves her fingers over the bamboo (it cost her a fortune), carefully following the small grooves and indents that may pierce a zombie's heart soon...maybe. though she'd rather not waste her precious arrows on dead people.

...

"h-help me"

a small voice shivers through the air, descending the stairs that they were under, a ghostly hue falling upon the atmosphere, the small, almost cowardly voice barely startling yuzuha from her sleepy daze, immediately straining her ears after realizing.

she presses her ear flush against the wall, eyes fluttering their sleepiness away, head launching any thoughts away as she furrows her skin, and she half-hopes she would hear it again. the silence sways for a bit, leaving the stairwell quiet and gloomy before a large clack resounds and bounces off of surfaces.

the sound repeats again, getting a bit louder and softer, and soon a mixture of groans mixes in with the melody, raising the hairs on yuzuha's neck, goosebumps stiff and firm, feeling her heart thump in the back of her throat.

her fingers twitch to wake up angry who looked like he was deep in his sleep, his mouth open a little, with specks of saliva coating the side of his lips, and his neck was craned in what was deemed uncomfortable. his chest heaves deeply which makes yuzuha clench her fingers instead. it was starting to get cold, the breeze turning into actual wind that has her nails turning red and numb.
