Vikrant

When my meeting with the international clients is over, I leave the conference room and go to my office.

Once I get my things from there, I hurriedly leave the building and head home to apologize to Nandini.

Looking at the watch, I notice it's already 11 pm.

I wanted to go home after calling Manish, my private investigator, and telling him to find everything about Nandini. It had been right after Nandini had stormed out of my office.

But as I walked out, I was reminded about an important meeting. We had been trying to get this meeting with the clients to expand our business to Europe for the last two months, and I could not cancel it and risk our expansion getting in danger after all the hard work from the whole team.

So, I sat back and reviewed all the presentations for the meeting for hours before sitting through the meeting and finally signing the deal.

And now, when that part of my duty is over, I know I must fulfill another part, too—the duty of apologizing to Nandini.

No matter why I was angry at her, I felt it had been wrong to invade her personal space.

Yes, I had no intention of touching her inappropriately, but still, what I did was wrong. I realized it immediately after how Nandini reacted to my proximity.

Reaching home, I first go to my room to see if Nandini is there, but she isn't. I also knocked on and opened the bathroom door but could not find her there either.

I walk out of my room and go to the living room, still looking around for Nandini, when I bump into one of my staff.

"Have you seen Nandini?" I ask him.

"No, Sir. Ma'am has not returned from the office yet," he replies, and I nod, letting him go about his work.

It's good that Mom and Dad went out of town for a short getaway and won't return until next week. If not, I have no idea what excuse I would have given them regarding Nandini storming out of the office and not coming home until this time of the night.

Where are you, Nandini?

I feel concerned for her as I look at my watch and notice it's already 1 am.

The way she stormed out—I'm worried that she might do something careless.

Not wanting to keep waiting for her to come home, I get out of the house, intending to call the police and ask for their help to find out about Nandini's whereabouts.

But the moment I step out of the house, I see something move through my peripheral vision, and I follow that vision to find Nandini slumped in the corner of the garden.

She was kneeling on the floor, covering her face with her hands as she rocked back and forth.

Third Person's POV

Seeing Nandini that way, Vikrant feels a pinch in his heart.

As he steps closer to her, he can hear her sobs, and it is so potent that it makes even his eyes misty.

The heart-wrenching sobs from her feel as if she is trying to wash something very hurtful from within her but is unable to.

"Nandini, what are you doing here?" Vikrant asks gently when he reaches her, surprised at how hoarse his voice sounded.

He is unable to understand why the pain radiating off her is also affecting him.

When she neither replies to him nor stops crying, he raises his hand to keep it on her shoulder but hesitates, remembering her reaction to his closeness earlier.
