Lilac tightened her tie, made sure her top button was done up, put  some of her hair back, tying it with a ribbon and letting a few natural curls frame her face. She walked out of the bathroom and the girls, who had just woken up stared at her like she was crazy.

"It's 6:30 in the morning and you are ready for class," Marena said as she covered herself with the duvet again.

"I know. I couldn't sleep. Usually, James is blasting music or I hear dad's quill or mums humming. It is so strange." She shrugged

"I'll meet you in the common room." Lilac smiled and headed downstairs, where she sat with a book.

"Hi. Lilac right? I'm Amos Diggory. Fifth year."

"Nice to meet you Amos"  the girl smiled.

"I'm surprised you are awake. Not many first-years get up this early." He said and sat beside her.

"I'm a bit out of sorts if I'm honest and being away from James, we'll away from his nose is strange"

"Well, I'm sure you will have classes with him, though our classes are mostly with Slytherin. It is an unspoken thing between the houses. Ravenclaws and Gryffindors have a great friendship, but Slytherin and Hufflepuff, that's another story"

"Could you tell me?"
Amos smiled

"Rumor was that Salazar Slytherin was in love with Helga Hufflepuff. He was so in love that he made it a core ambition to keep every Hufflepuff by blood or student safe from harm. Yes, Slytherin house can be intimidating, but they'll always befriend and defend a Hufflepuff."

"That's kind of sweet" she smiled as Ross came down.

"Morning" he smiled as a fifth-year girl came downstairs.

"Amos, you coming?" She smiled.

"Of course. Have a good day Lilac. Feel free to speak to me anytime" he grinned before going off with the girl.

"Who was that?" Ross asked

"Amos Diggory. Some say the Diggory lineage goes back to Helga Hufflepuff"

"That's nice." Ross shrugged.

"Sorry I'm not a morning person" he yawned.

"I can tell. How come you are up so early?"

"Joseph snores like a fucking dragon." He stated, making Lilac laugh.

"Do you think we have to sit with our houses at breakfast?" Lilac asked

"Why? Had enough of yellow already?" Ross chuckled. Lilac gasped

"Not. I just miss James" she told Ross.

A few minutes later, Evie, Marena and Joseph came down. All first-years had to gather in the common room to meet their head of the house.

"Good morning students. I'm Professor Kettleburn, head of the house. I am so happy to meet you all. Now, as you all know, Hufflepuff is often seen as the weakest house. Tell that to the house cup which we have won for the past seventy years" he said proudly.

"Now, I am not encouraging violence at all and any violence will be dealt with according to school rules, but I don't want to see any Hufflepuff student be put down by any other student.

The houses are called houses for a reason. Within each house is a family and we look out for the family. Any questions about anything?" He asked

Lilac raised her hand.

"Yes, dear. Remind me of your name?"

"Lilac Potter Professor"

"Ah, Miss Potter, go ahead"

"Are we allowed to sit in the great hall with other houses?"

"You are at breakfast and most sit with their friends at lunch, but not at dinner" he smiled.

A few others asked him questions then he dismissed them.

She laughed as Ross and Joseph as they waltzed down the halls.

James Potter grinned as he saw his sister. He hugged her tightly.

"It is so wired being so far away," she said and sat beside him.

"Isn't it? How's Hufflepuff? Made any friends?" He asked

"A few. Ross, Joseph, Evie and you met Marena"

"They seem nice"

"They are" she smiled

"Good morning Lilac" Peter smiled.

s"Morning Pete. Sleep well?" She asked, he nodded as Lily sat down with two new faces

"Hi Lilac" She beamed

"Hi, Lily, who are your new friends?"

"This is Dorcas and Marlene"

"Hi, I'm Lilac, James' sister."

The two girls smiled as the owls flew in. The Potter family owl landed on the table.

"It's for you," James told his sister, who opened the letter.

"Lilac Euphemia Potter,

We are SO proud of you.

The Hogwarts houses don't define you. Though Gryffindor emits bravery, you differ from the rest of us and you were placed in a house all alone and that is braver than anything else.

Congratulations to you as well James, you are the true definition of a Gryffindor, please try and get some studies done.

Your mother and I love you both so much. Have a great first day,

Dad and mum. "

James and Lilac smiled, and Lilac gave a smile, at least they weren't angry. Judging by the look on Sirius' face as he read his letter, that wasn't the case.

"Miss Potter, here is your timetable. Have a good first day." Professor Kettleburn smiled and went off to his class

"Lilac!" Joseph called. She hugged her brother and sent a reassuring smile to Sirius before running off.

Potions were their first lesson. Professor Slughorn took an interest in Lilac after she made a successful cure for boils potion. The only other two students to make a successful potion were Lily Evans and Severus Snape.

Next was Herbology, Professor Kettleburn taught it and was very happy with the group of Hufflepuff friends as they had been rather excited and absorbing the knowledge he gave them, which won their house 25 house points.

Then they had Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, who had everyone in a seating plan in Alphabetical order, so the Potter siblings sat together.

"Please remember these seats, because they will not change until your second year." Her Scottish accent spoke.

After the three lessons, they headed to lunch. Lilac was walking with Evie when three older girls from Ravenclaw stopped them.

"Looks like we have two little Hufflepuffs on our hands." one girl laughed

"Wow, your eyes work," Evie smirked.

"Shut up." the oldest-looking one said and shoved Lilac and Evie into the wall.

"Hey! Jenkins. Why don't you pick on someone who can fight back, or are you too scared to go against a Slytherin?" Bellatrix Black sneered. The three older girls scoffed and walked away.

Bellatrix turned to the two girls.

"You little badgers okay?" She asked.

Bellatrix hated the Potter family and muggle-borns, but not if they were Badgers. Hufflepuffs are off-limits.

Lilac nodded.

"Thank you," Evie spoke. Bellatrix gave a small smile.

"If those girls give you trouble, come find me and I'll hex them." She smiled and headed off.

Bellatrix Black just defended a potter and a Muggle Born.

They are serious about defending Hufflepuffs.
