Auld Lang Syne

James ran into Lilac's room while yelling

"Wake up Lilac! It's Christmas! it's Christmas!" He beamed She sat up and glared at her brother.

"You woke me up three times now James. It is still Christmas eve." Lilac sighed

"Prove it." James challenged. She sighed and pointed to her clock, which clearly showed the time as 11:30.

"I have been helping mum cook in the kitchen all day and night. I am tired and going back to sleep." She glared before laying down and pulling her covers over her head. James sighed

"But I am so bored!" He complained

"Go to sleep James"

"No!"

Lilac sat up again

"Fine. What do you want to do?" She asked

"Cmon" He grabbed her  hand and pulled her downstairs where their parents were sitting.

"James, did you just wake up your sister?" Euphemia asked.

"Sorta" he smiled.

"Good. Come on over here, we are about to watch a muggle Christmas film."

Lilac and James sat beside their parents, James next to his mother and Lilac next to her father. Fleamont transfigured a cushion into a fluffy yellow blanket and wrapped Lilac around in it.

"I've made a hufferito Burrito." He laughed. Euphemia smiled and shook her head and began to play the film.

An hour later and both of the twins were fast asleep. Fleamont and Euphemia carried the twins to their room and gave them each a kiss on the head before closing their doors over and going to finish wrapping their presents.

Lilac was awoken once again, but this time by her mother.

"Merry Christmas Lilac"

"Merry Christmas mum" she beamed and went downstairs where James and Fleamont were sitting.

"Finally" James sighed dramatically.

His sister stuck her tongue out at him as she sat down.

The twins opened their gifts and thanked their parents. That was when Euphemia came in with another box for Lilac

"Be careful with this one" Fleamont said with a smiled as he and James set up a Train track.

"What is it?" She asked

"Open it and find out" Euphemia smiled.

Lilac gently opened the present to see a cute baby bunny.

"Aww" she beamed and took Out the bunny.

"You get to pick her name" Monty smiled.

"Toffee"

"Toffee?"

"Toffee" she confirmed and kissed the bunnys head

"I took the liberty of writing to the head of your house, he said that he will allow you to bring your pet to Hogwarts as long as you take care of her."

"Really?!" She beamed

"Of course love" Euphemia smiled as the twins pet the bunny.

The day was spent with the small family having dinner and watching movies, as every year. They had a game of cards while Fleamont had a few extra drinks and began to sing loudly, part of the routine.

The night ended with Lilac laying in her room with Toffee as she listened to some music and wrote to her friends, smiling as she read Marena's letter about her grandfather. she ended up falling asleep sooner than expected.

"Mum" Lilac said as she walked into the kitchen the next morning, but it wasn't her mother standing there, it was her father, he was washing the dishes.

"Morning Lilac-Marie, your mum has just popped over to Mrs Campbell's house, what's wrong, love?" Fleamont asked as he dried his hands on a chequered tea towel

"My friend Marena wants to dye her hair pink and I was going to ask mum if she had any hair dye." Lilac said as Euphemia walked in

"Hair dye? Lilac, love your hair is beautiful."

"Not for me, for my friend Marena."

"What colour?"

"Pink."

"Come with me, I think I have a few."

And so the mother and daughter went to Euphemia's pampering room, full of essential oils, candles, bath salts, makeup and a lot of other beauty related things. Euphemia let her daughter pick out the colours and explained to her daughter how to use the dye correctly and wrapped it up before telling her daughter to change, they were having some friends round for the New year festivities.

The Potter household was full of friends and family as the adults drank themselves into a stupor and the children danced with their drunk relatives, it was a normal new years eve for them all, then at five minutes to midnight, Euphemia handed the twins a small glass of Champagne to toast the new year.

As always, Euphemia had a tear in her eye as the bells began to ring.

"Happy New Year!" Everyone shouted and hugged each other and welcomed everyone int the new year.

Though, a new year like this was normal for the Potters, New Year for Severus Snape and Sirius Black was completley different,

Sirius had been locked in his bedroom while the guests were round, his parents merely pretending that they only had one son

Severus had been forced to watch as his father hit his mother for forgetting to pour champagne.

Lilac couldnt help but feel bad. She and james had grown up with a loving family and there are so many people who don't have that. Sirius with his pureblood supremicist family, Marena with her alcoholic father, Joseph barely saw his parents due to their tight schedule. it made Lilac feel awful. Perhaps over the summer and Christmas her friends could come and stay with them. It wouldn't change their home life, but maybe it would make the all happy and that was the most important thing to sweet little Lilac.

After saying goodbye to the guests, Lilac sat beside her father on the sofa while Euphemia went to bed.

"I'm proud of you Lila-Mae." Fleamont smiled

"You are?"

"Of course I am. You have went your own way in life. Instead of sticking to the story, you wrote a whole other book. A Hufflepuff Potter. I never thought I'd live to see that happen, but I am not opposed to it." Fleamont smiled

"I just want you to be true to yourself, baby. People will come and go and sometimes you might be alone, but that is fine, sometimes that is needed in order for you to blossom and thrive." Fleamont told her before kissinng her head.

"I love you dad." She smiled

"I love you too, sweetheart. More than you could ever know." He said. and hugged her.

He watched as she took a walk upstairs to her room and sighed. With times getting dark, Fleamont couldn't help but worry about his children, Lilac especially.
