Putting the final button in place, Grace picks up her black school bag and exits her room. She moves to the dinning table and settles down. Her youngest sister peeks at her and moves to her side.
"My love," Grace beams, "how are you doing?" She pulls Deborah's cheeks and pinches them playfully.
"I'm doing well. You?" Deborah responds.
"I'm okay." Grace replies and turns to look into the kitchen.
"Where's she?" She asks Deborah.
"Right behind you and might give you a knock if you don't acknowledge her anytime soon." Eunice retorts. Eunice is Grace's immediate younger sister who looks more like the elder sister because of her matured facial look and body stature. Grace gives her a look that passes the message; 'shut up' and turns to face their mother.
"Good morning ma." She greets and brings out her phone from her skirt's pocket. Her mother rudely snatches up the phone and puts it behind her. "It's either this phone or one book or the other."
"It's not affecting anyone is it?" Grace retorts.
"Watch your speech young lady." Her mother queries and moves to serve everyone. She mutters inaudible words and moves her portion of the food closer to herself.
She picks at the food while looking at her phone where her mother placed it. "You can always give me your food instead of wasting it, you know?" Eunice offers as she practically drags the plate full of food from her sister's reach and begins to munch the content. Grace once again shows her disapproval with facial expressions instead of audible sounds.
"Have you used your drugs?" Mrs Ojo asks as she takes a gulp of water at the same time rising up to take her plate to the kitchen.
Grace slowly rises up from the seat and puts on her bag as she strides to the visitor receiving part of the house. "You talk about me taking my drugs as if I am one sick person."
Now standing in the sitting room with Eunice and Deborah, "Of course you're not sick. Very healthy a girl." the elderly woman mocks and picks up her Italian made leather handbag.
"No one leaves after me. Out everyone!" Mrs Ojo orders and the family goes about the day's business.
Just as she steps into the school compound, a very tall and athletic looking girl runs up to her with concerned expressions.
"Good morning short legs." The teenager playfully greets. And like a switch was put in action; Grace beams with all her energy and replies, "Good morning Overcomer. How are you doing?"
"I should be asking that.I'm sorry I have to stop now. Battery's extremely low.
