"There is a day I will never forget
It seems like yesterday
It seems like yesterday...." The lyrics of "Giving it To You" by Jaymikee fills the room making Grace rush in from the bathroom. She runs to the bedside lamp stand and picks up the ringing phone. She swipes the green button and accepts the call.
"Hello Dad."
"Hello short cake." The voice from the other side hollers.
"I'm getting tall oo." Grace rebuffs and whines .
"If you like be taller than Mount Everest, you're still my short cake. How's like going?"
"Good. Had a life rededication on Wednesday at Overcomer's church. It was just... I don't even know." She sighs and takes a seat on the lamp stand as she twirls a strand of her loosed hair in her hand.
"Really? I knew that girl had great energy. So you're different now I guess."
"I feel like I am. Acted different when I got home that day. Mom was extra surprised. Been a good girl since then too. I think it's real this time."
"That's great to know dear. Don't let him slip off this time, please...." The man drawls.
"Sure. I will try actually." She says and lets out a chuckle.
"How's she?"
"Who? Overcomer?"
"Yes." Her father affirms.
"She should be fine. I almost forgot, can I go over to her place today?"
"House chores nko?"
"Done!"
"Collect transport money from your Mom. Be back early."
"Thanks Dad. I love you." She squeals.
"I know right. Besides how's the ulcer?" He asks using a concerned tone.
"It's there oo. It's been a while since I had an attack actually. Been eating well too."
"That's good. Take care then. I have work. My regards to Overcomer."
"Sure Dad. Bye." The line goes off with a beep and Grace drops the phone on the bed. She goes over to the wooden brown wardrobe leaning on the wall adjacent the bed. She opens the first door and picks out a yellow round neck top from the hundreds of round neck tops neatly folded in a colour coded order with each pile carrying a white cellphone bag housing pairs of ankle socks matching the color of the round neck top underneath it. She bends down a little to pick a black pencil skirt from the second row in the wardrobe. She takes a Jean made face cap from a green colored hanger and closes the wardrobe. She enters the bathroom and emerges a few minutes later fully dressed in a yellow round neck, black pencil skirt and Jean face cap. She goes over to the plastic rack and picks up black leather open toes sandals. She uses this to complete her dressing and leaves the room after closing the blind shutters."Who is there?" A loud voice asks as the door suddenly barges open. A loud shriek goes forth as Overcomer carries a dumbfounded Grace and turns around with her.
"Drop me joor." Grace says when she notices that Overcomer wasn't planning to drop her anytime soon.
"Issh! What is doing you gan sef?" She releases Grace without prior notice and Grace almost falls on her butt as she staggers and turns. "Can you see? You don't even have stamina." Overcomer mocks and opens the door wider. She leads the way in and doesn't stop at the sitting room.
"Where are we going to?" Puzzled Grace asks.
"My personal library na. We will have all the privacy we need because I know you came to tell me that story." The taller says and opens the last door on the right side of the house. The girls go into the room and Grace marvels at the amount of books present in the library. She goes over to the complete computer system and takes a seat on the executive office chair placed in its front. She whirls on the chair and the tires slide to the front as she transports herself on the chair moving from the shelf labelled science to the one labelled Christian, to another labelled language as her eyes widen at intervals. She looks back to sight Overcomer putting on a bored expression.
"What happened to you?" Grace asks.
"Thought you were here to tell me something."
"Human being cannot feel at home again abi?"
"No nau. I just know that you're trying to postpone the telling of the story and I won't allow you. Just so you know ni oo." Overcomer submits and takes a seat on the only lounge chair in the room.
"Noted." Grace replies and walks over to sit beside her.
"So, the main point is that, I was a twin."Twin wetin 👂. Did I hear that alone? What is happening bayii oo. Looks like we're about to get to the bottom of the matter. That thing that makes Grace let off a hot and cold vibe is about to be known to us all. This chapter is dedicated to yewandejoseph for unconsciously getting revived through her words. I call it unconsciously because the words weren't said to be directly but to Thewordnpen2, a very good friend who decided to share them with me too. Thanks so much ma'am and thanks dear friend for being a friend. This is the tagging session ooo. Tag three of your friends, first comment gets dedication of next chapter 😊😊.
