H A R R Y

the hogwarts castle was extremely cold this winters afternoon. harry nibbled on his dinner as he and hermione spoke casually; meanwhile ronald weasley was scoffing down his food as quickly as possible, of course.

"i can't believe its almost christmas." hermione beamed, it was obvious this was her favourite time of year.
"its not, its november 20th." harry rolled his eyes, this was most definitely not his favourite time of year. he much preferred summer personally, he liked the warmth and the bright sun.

"no, hermione's right. it's almost december. therefore, its almost christmas! i can't wait to go back to my house for the holidays." ron said, joining the happy conversation surprisingly.

"what are you doing for christmas harry?" the girl asked.
"you can come with me if you want harry, you know my family all love you." ron invited, a genuine smile on his face.
"i don't know. i might just stay here this year. we'll see." harry shrugged; not thinking much of it.

"okay, fair enough."

the gryffindors then spoke about their last lessons of the day — history of magic and herbology. harry groaned as he recalled the lessons, he hated them both.
"think on the bright side, you can go practice quidditch after herbology." hermione said, trying to find a positive.
"no, i can't. i have tutoring with stupid snape." harry groaned, holding his head in his hands on the table. he rolled his eyes, and hermione giggled at him.

"oh come on, it can't be that bad."
"it can, and it is." harry stated, his voice flat and bored.
"hm. if you say soooo..." she teased, clearly not believing harry.
"i mean it!"

herbology was a slow lesson. since it was his last one of the day, it obviously dragged. for todays lesson, the students would choose a partner and they'd work together to make gillyweed. then one of the partners would eat it, and of course have to deal with the affects.

gillyweed — if consumed — made the consumer grow fish-like gills and make then able to breathe underwater.

for this practical lesson, ron and harry partnered up. it wasn't a hard plant to make either, so that bit was pretty easy. the real challenge was to convince ron to eat it, since harry immediately refused.

the ginger boy refused time and time again, but harry was very persistent. eventually, ron gave in and took small bites of the planr. seconds later, he had formed into a human fish? it was indescribable, he looked strange.

when harry broke the news that ron would be stuck like this for an hour, the ginger boy was furious. althought harry just laughed it off, and eventually ron did too.

as harry roamed the hallways, he wished he could turn back and go to his dorms to relax, or maybe even the quidditch field to get some practice in. but no, he had to be tutored by his least favourite teacher. harry knew if he was late, snape would be even angrier; but at this point he didn't care.

he knocked on the classroom door, and it flew open magically. harry sighed as he walked in, but then his eyes widened at the unexpected guest who was in the room, alongside professor snape.

"malfoy?" he choked, and professor snape rolled his eyes.
"i can't perform our lessons today, potter. so draco has kindly offered to do it for me, goodbye now." and with a swish of his cape, the greasy-haired man had disappeared.

this was the first time in over a week the two boys had been in a room alone together.
"you offered to tutor me?" harry asked, raising an eyebrow. he didn't understand. he was under the impression draco hated him, afterall he did dump him!

"no! no— i didn't. snape said i'd get twenty points for slytherin if i did though so..." draco explained and harry nodded understandingly.
"oh. ok." he slumped down into a chair, resting his elbows on the chair and letting his head be held by his own hands comfortably.

"let's start with—"
"you don't have to actually tutor me. i can just tell snape you did so you get the points." harry shrugged, not wanting to be in this awkward situation for a second longer.
"how would that help you?" draco asked, folding his arms.
"it wouldn't. but its easier for us two."

"i don't mind tutoring you, potter." at the sound of the name draco used, harry felt a pain in his heart. why did that stupid boy have to go back to calling harry by his surname? he hated it.

"okay. whatever." he shrugged, not wanting to sound petty.
"so what did you and snape work on last lesson?"

the tutoring went by fairly quickly, thankfully. it wasn't as awkward anymore, it was quiet of course but harry got used to it.

draco seemed a bit different. his hair looked different, it wasn't as gelled anymore, and he smelt a bit more natural — harry preferred it. and his eyes seemed blank, almost as if they had no soul. it was upsetting, but also none of harry's business.

"well, thats it then. i should go now." draco said, closing all the textbooks used and begun putting them back on one of the shelves.
"right. okay then." harry nodded, standing up and readjusting his glasses. "bye." he quickly said, not seeing any reason to stay there any longer.

it was nice to see draco though, harry couldn't lie. he missed the boy, even if it was one sided.
