Present
22-year-old MiaI'm so sick of seeing the same cream colored walls everyday. They taunt me because they know I'm never allowed to leave. Stuck in my own hell.
The only good thing about my personal hell is Jasmine. The only person who I talk to. Let me rephrase that- the only person I'm allowed to talk to.
If I need anything at all I go to her. Once I tell her, she lets someone else know and by the next day I have what I wanted.
Jasmine is the girl that took care of me after Miss Lucy. Shes the one who carried my screaming, trebling body up to my room. She's been with me for nine years, and I always stay in line, so she doesn't get the same fate as her.
What Carlos, or my father, said to me that day stays with me forever.
I got Miss Lucy killed, so I listen and obey so no one else dies because of me.
I have the same routine every day. Wake up, wait for Jasmine, go eat breakfast, wait for Jasmine, go shower and then stay in my room. I watch movies, but it's usually the same ones over and over again. Carlos refuses to get me new ones.
Sometimes, like today, I'll go out in the back yard for some sun. I always have to plan it though, so Jasmine can be with me.
I know. Jasmine, Jasmine, Jasmine.
I'm very thankful for her though. I would say she's like my mother, but she's not old. She's more like a big sister.
Besides the fact that I love her, it's stupid that she has to be around me everywhere I go. I am 22 years old, and I have to have a babysitter at all times.
I know that's not normal. I'm not a child anymore.
Carlos told me when I turned 18 that he doesn't care that I'm an adult. I'm still a child in his eyes, and that means I need my babysitter. I've protested before but that only gets me hit, so I gave up.
"Do you think I'll ever get out of this house," I speak my thoughts. Turning towards Jasmine, who is sitting beside me, with furrowed brows and a tight-lipped frown. Our feet dipped in the cold water in the pool as we lean back on our elbows.
She gives me the same look she does every time I ask that same question.
It's the 'you're joking right' look.
"Mia," she sighs as she sits up and runs her hand through the water, causing it to ripple underneath her touch. "I would love to say yes, but since Carlos brought in James and he took your title away from you I don't know anymore."
Ah right. Apparently dear father didn't want me to run his business after he retires, so he found James. A complete psycho who loves to belittle me.
I found out that he brought him here to prevent me from inheriting his business. Being pissed was a understatement.
