MENTIONS OF SUICIDE

(13700 words 😧)

I jumped up, gasping loudly. I was sure the entire hospital heard. I was on an embalming table, it was obvious I was in the morgue. I reached up, feeling my neck that had nothing on it besides skin. I was okay. I smiled in relief.

"Thank god, she's alive."

I looked up because I swore I heard a voice I thought I would never hear again. But when the face matched I wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't move because there was no way this was real. I had to be dreaming.

"Allison?" I barely got the name out of my mouth.

Her eyes widened as she looked behind her, the room was empty. She shook her head, "you can see me?"

"What?" I asked. This wasn't real. No way. I slowly got up from the table but her eyes weren't on me anymore. I followed her gaze to the table I was just sitting on. But I was still there. My body was there, laying down. My neck was covered in blood and I don't think I had ever seen myself so pale. My lips were blue, spotted in red. I shook my head, "how is this happening?"

I felt a poke on my arm that withdrew quicker than it was placed there. I looked over at Allison who was panicking visibly which was causing me to freak out more. She backed up from me, running her hands through her hair, "this can't be happening. You can't be dead!"

"Dead?" I asked. I heard her mumbling to herself but I wasn't really thinking about my death. Allison was standing in front of me. She was talking and I could feel her touch. My best friend was right in front of me.

"If Theo killed you then you should be able to come back to life. This won't last." Allison mumbled to herself. I was staring at the back of her head but there was no way I actually was. She's not really here. I'm dreaming. I have to be. "Everything will be fine, we just have to give you an hour."

She turned around, her eyes softening when we made eye contact. I was really staring at Allison right now. I don't think I cared if I was dreaming, I just couldn't believe I was in the same room as her. When Allison cocked her head to the side and smiled softly, opening her arms, I was surprised that my legs were able to take me to her. I wrapped my arms around her in the tightest embrace, I think either of us have experience.

"Is this real? Am I dreaming?" I asked, Allison pulled away, shaking her head. I would say I can't breathe but I feel that's pretty obvious.

"No you're not. And I'm not either because I can't." Allison rambled, a dim laugh following afterwards.

There were a million words I wanted to say but I didn't know where to begin. Even in the darkest room in the hospital I felt like everything was shining. The coldest room felt like the warmest.
