Tell Me A Secret

Chapter 4: The First Test

Niall soon gets out and walks over to my side of the car and opens the door. He reaches for my hand and I surely grab it to help me get out of the car. I analyze the easy street café and make my judgements of it. It is so pretty, Niall and I soon walk in and wait to be seated. The inside was also so beautiful.  The design was like a coffee shop and popping colors everywhere. The smell of flowers roamed the air and the succulents were placed on every counter top. The counters were blue with flowers hanging everywhere. It is like a girls dream place in here. How does Niall know this place and I don't?

"Right this way" a waitress says as she walks us to our table in front of a window.

It is a booth looking out into the city and the harbor. What a perfect setting, this town is gorgeous. I look down and browse the menu to see what I want to order.

Hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, blt's, salads, chicken tenders....

Chicken Tenders sound super good right now, I know I am a white girl.

"Do you know what you're getting yet" Niall says while looking over his menu to meet my eyes.

"I think I'm going to get chicken tenders"

"C'mon Avery seriously" he says laughing.

He goes to grab my menu but I try and fight to keep it in my hand.

"It's what I want Niall" I say aggressively

"Fine have it you're way"

"What are you having since you're being judgy" I ask while grabbing his hand off my menu

"My favorite is the turkey and swiss sandwich with some steak cut fries"

"That sounds good, do you come here a lot?"

"It's my favorite restaurant, I usually go on my lunch breaks" He says smiling at the menu

The waitress comes back and we both tell her our orders and our drinks. I patiently look at my phone to kill time, but something has been lingering in my mind. Niall is going to be following me around for god knows how long, I need to find out what he is like and what his life looks like. I definitely don't think that it is too much to ask, so I do.

"Hey Niall" I say looking up at him and sitting my phone down

He notices I sit my phone down so he does the same.

"Yes Avery" he speaks while putting his fingers to his lips

"Since you are my body guard now I feel like I should know a little more about you"

He looks at me like I just told him I killed someone. Why did he react that why, it wasn't that deep. I just want to know more about my body guard.

"It's ok Avery, I really don't like to talk about my past" he says very sternly

"Oh ok" I say saddened

What could he be hiding from me, maybe he just hates talking about his past because of trauma. Now I feel bad for asking. It becomes awkward so I grab my phone again and Niall does the same. The waitress brings out our food and we eat in silence. I really just want to go crawl up into a ball just because of the awkwardness. We finish eating and Niall pays for my lunch and I thank him but he doesn't say much. We soon arrive back at Highland Industries and we walk back to my office. He takes his resting place on the couch with his phone and I start writing my article again.

My phone buzzes and I look to see my dad texted me

Dad: I'm getting done early so I'll come get you in a bit

Oh thank god, I just need some alone time away from Niall. Literally the first day and I made him mad or upset. I look over towards Niall and he is just staring out the window. I feel bad for him, what if I brought memories up that he didn't want to think about.

I start to say something but then he stops me.

"Hey Avery, I'm really sorry for earlier, it was kind of stupid of me" he says walking over to the seat in front of my desk

"Look it's over with, it's ok" I say trying to brush it off

"No I was a dick, I shouldn't have reacted that way" he says with sincereness

"I accept your apology"

"Thank you" he says with a smile

"I was 16 when I started working for your dad, I didn't want to start working at that age, but I had too. My mom was sick with cancer and my dad was out of the picture so I had to pay the hospital bills. She later died when I was 17 and I started my life by myself. I was a hard worker and your dad noticed me, so he promoted me. I have been his "body guard" for about 4 years now. I had to go through training and so much work to become one, but I got it down. I found out that I was going to be your body guard about 5 months ago so they shipped me off to training again. It's almost like marine training plus testing on your family like birthdays and what you like. But yeah that's my sad poor life" he says while combing his hair back.

"I am so sorry Niall for having you bring that up, you really didn't have too"

"It's okay, you're right we are going to be seeing a lot of each other so I need to open up"

I feel so bad for him, he is all alone in this world. He has been through so much at a young age and so much trauma. This also explains why he is so built and knows my birthday. I thought he was just creepy. I get up to hug him because I feel awful for him. I wrap my arms around his back and squeeze really tight. He wraps his hands around my waist and squeezes just a bit, but I can tell he is trying. I pull away from the hug to talk to him.

"I felt like you needed one of those" I say standing in front of him

"I'm not that soft Avery, I can deal with my own problems" he says shoving my shoulder

"Everyone needs a hug sometimes" I say smiling at him, and he smiles back

My dad comes walking through the door and sees me and Niall

"Are we all ready to go home for the night" he says with his hands up

"Yes" Niall and me say at the same time, looking at each other after saying it at the same time.

"I take that you guys are excited" my dad says smiling

We reach back home and Niall follows us home, obviously he is going to be living with us. If this man is in my room every second I'm in there I will flip. A girl needs some alone time and space.

I go upstairs to my room to change my clothes because I won't be in this business attire all night, not happening. I shut my door and go into my closet to change. I reach for a white cropped halter top and some grey joggers. I also grab some slippers so I can be cozy for the rest of the night. I go over to bed and get under the covers to wait for dinner. I start reading a colleen hoover book and turn on my bedside lamp.  I get so lost into the book that I barely notice the knock on my door. It was probably Niall because his room is right across from mine.

"It's unlocked" I say as Niall walks in pushing the door open

"Hey dinner is done, meet you downstairs" he looks over at me in my snuggled up state

"Okay thank you for letting me know" I say while turning to my side and ignoring him

I think Niall left but then I realize he is still there when he walks over to my bed.

"You read" he says walking over to the opposite side of the bed

"Yeah I love to read in my free time"

"Me too, I am such a book work"

"You are so nerdy Niall" I say rolling out of bed and laying the book on my nightstand

"Shut up" he says while walking out with me and messing up my hair

"Hey stop that"

Hey guys hope you liked this chapter. I get it is going to be boring because it is the beginning of a book but please stick with me. I have great plans coming in the next couple chapters.
