It's May 1909, a prototype locomotive is built named James. He was painted grey with yellow stripes and used to transport trucks around the railway, however, clearly, he has wooden brake blocks that is a difficulty for him so he has to go slow and as he did jobs, he wanted to go as fast as those other engines who passed him, as well as how other engines were pulling passenger trains instead of dirty old trucks, as well as get a bright coat of paint. He also tried looking impressive by doing the most work, yet he couldn't do it the fastest and he was always up at night overworking himself and going to the works constantly, maybe even twice per month.

In March 1917 James was about to be put out of service and scrapped due to other locomotives on the railway being more fit for service than him, until he got word that he was just bought to help with the Northwestern Railway.

On the 19th of April 1917, James is taken on a ship to Knapford Harbor where he is then sent to Crovan Gate Works to be painted black and get fitted with new parts, everything but his wooden brake blocks and with his new parts, he starts bragging about it making him very narcissistic. He is then assigned to sleep in Tidmouth Sheds and is assigned two coaches, Annie and Clarabel. He also goes very fast now with these coaches and they both complain constantly.
