the day was gloomy as was all winter days. quackity hadn't planned on working considering he had work off on the weekends but when his coworker called in ill he had no choice.

he had to cancel his plans with his friends for work but at least it'll pay the bills.

"so i know you don't usually work back here with the insects but surely you won't have trouble with them." his boss says.

quackity clears his throat, "so what exactly am i doing?"

"just monitoring them," the boss coughs, "make sure they don't escape or die."

"sounds good." quackity throws up a quick thumbs up.

the boss walks off and quackity let's out a dramatic groan. if there's anything he hates more than work it's insects.

he walked into the back room and immediately felt shivers down his spine. there was cages with large and small spiders. there was ants, things he's never even seen before.

he sat in the chair and looked around to see if there was any cameras. he didn't see any in sight so he pulled out his phone and scrolled through instagram.

on his friends story, they were all hanging without him. karl, sapnap, and george. he frowned but of course he knew that his absence wouldn't cancel the entire plan. he still wished they rescheduled or something.

he hearted all their stories and signed off. he connected his airpods before throwing on some music. he pocketed his phone before standing from the chair.

he decided to go check out the spiders.

he studied the cages and all the sizes of spiders.

"me personally, i'd get the fuck out of here. but that's just me— and i'm not a spider." he scoffs to himself and turns away.

he then gives quick glances to the other insects to secure their placements. once he confirmed that they were captive he sat back down.

in all honesty quackity had no clue what they did with the insects or what really went on in the back rooms. he simply was in charge of intakes.

he'd meet up with people from all over the world with insects and take them in. it was an easy job that paid well. he was never too interested to actually ask what the catch was.

he went back onto his phone and this time played some mobile minecraft. although he preferred the game on his pc he didn't mind the mobile version. it helped time pass and he still had complete access to all his worlds.

he joined his creative one where he had his own kingdom. he finished up a room in the palace and collected the crops.

after some time he ended up on tiktok. he scrolled through endless videos about the cities and just nonsense he couldn't spare a second thought.

soon an hour had passed. he ended up nearly falling asleep. considering his weekend schedule involved a lot of sleeping it was hard for him to keep awake.

he fell asleep for an hour before jolting himself up when he felt a sudden pain in his hand. he looked down to see two red dots. he groaned as he rubbed his hand. he looked around to see a dead spider on the table next to where his hand had been lying.

quackity was left to assume that the spider had escaped and bit quackity but his hands reflex slapped the spider and killed it.

he shuddered in fear of what his boss would say. so instead he grabbed the spider and stood to look for it's cage. once he found it he simply laid it back in the cage. he locked the cage back up and sat back down.

he sighed.

"fuck man."

he agreed that he'd take the job more seriously and watch over the insects.

once his shift was over he waited for the next person to show up, finally they did— ten minutes late.

"sorry big q, the train had a delay." the boy; a teen, sighed.

quackity rubbed his hand, "you're all good tommy."

"what's the report?"

"well everything is good." quackity cleared his throat, "except one— it eventually just stopped moving. i didn't want to grab it so i don't know what's wrong with it."

lying was wrong, yes. but quackity couldn't just say that he wasn't doing his job and then the spider escaped and bit him.

"hm. let's go check it out."

quackity nodded and followed tommy to the cage. quackity unlocked it and tommy grabbed the dead spider. he inspected it before nodding.

"yup, this guys gone. he was recently experimented on so maybe it just wiped him out." tommy looked to quackity, "thanks for letting me know."

quackity nodded before giving his farewells. he finally entered his car. he looked at his hand which had become a bit bruised and was more in pain.

"of course it was an mutant spider too." he whispered under his breath.

when quackity had made it home and laid on his bed and immediately passed out. he didn't wake up until the next morning. when he sat up he was extremely sweaty and he felt off.

he checked his phone to see many missed messages from his friends. he was going to throw his phone but he struggled to let it go. it was like he had sticky hands. finally he got it off. he walked to the bathroom and looked in the mirror.

thankfully he didn't turn into a spider over night. his hair was splattered across his sweaty forehead but everything else was okay physically.

after washing himself from the sweat he called sapnap, the guy who would be able to get word to their other friends without quackity having to make separate calls.

"sorry after work i passed out." quackity started.

"you're okay, we just wanted to make sure you weren't— mad.." sapnap said, "but how was work?"

quackity rolled his eyes; sure that they didn't care until they looked at the viewers, "i'm not mad. but work was fine, i got bit by a spider and apparently it was like being tested on."

"you're not going to die are you?"

"nah. but the spider died, karma." quackity laughed.

"does it hurt?" sapnap asked, "do you need an aid kit?"

quackity blushed a bit, "im okay, really. thanks for calling sap. i'll text you though, im really hungry."

"okay sounds good, please let me know if you start feeling weird."

quackity ended the call and stormed into his kitchen. he looked into his fridge and pulled out a meal that was wrapped. it was his moms but he didn't eat it because he wasn't a fan of meatloaf.

he warmed it up and finished it within five minutes. he wasn't satisfied and grabbed a pint of ice cream. he grabbed a spoon and ventured to his living room. he turned on some breaking bad.

it was his third time watching through but it was entertaining.

he finished the entire pint in a few episodes.

thankfully he felt filled. he was never usually that hungry. especially for his mothers meatloaf. maybe he was just catching a cold.

either way something was up. and for some reason yesterday was being more and more of a blur, as if it was only a dream. he shrugged it off and excused it as fatigue.
