Fortunate for Xiao Zhan, a local bookstore stood conveniently across from the hospital. Although small in size, the store's shelves were low enough that one could see every head within, and its interior ambiance seemed tailored for individuals seeking solace after visiting the hospital. The lighting was warm, creating an inviting atmosphere.
Having planned for his driver to pick him up half an hour before his next appointment, Xiao Zhan took the opportunity to rest and spend some quality time with himself. His feet led him to a section filled with picture books, a genre he hadn't explored since his childhood. He couldn't explain why he felt drawn to the bookstore today, especially after having passed it countless times during his hospital visits over the years. The scent of books long-forgotten filled his senses, evoking a sense of contentment.
Browsing the bookshelves, he recognized some familiar titles and discovered new ones. He halted in the middle of a narrow shelf, captivated by a particular book, its cover making him smile.
"The Two Princes' Adventure," he murmured as he scanned the colorful pages of the children's book. He chuckled, reminiscing about reading similar clichéd stories in his youth. The book had brought back forgotten memories, the kind he had stashed away at the back of his mental closet.
Engrossed in his reading, the bookstore's chime shattered his concentration, drawing his attention to two men who had just entered. It wasn't their attractiveness that furrowed his brows, though they were indeed appealing. Rather, it was their disruptive arrival that disrupted the tranquil ambiance of the bookstore.
The twins, identical in appearance, commenced a loud argument as they ventured deeper into the store. The intimate setting couldn't withstand such noise; even normal conversation was too much in the compact space.
Xiao Zhan clicked his tongue, exhaling a deep sigh. He tried to return to his book, but the twins' bickering continued to irritate him. Their voices grew louder as they approached his location.
One twin criticized the other, arms folded across his chest. "I think you need to learn acting, you know what I mean?"
The second twin rolled his eyes, moving to the bookshelf behind Xiao Zhan, which held performing arts books. "Stop being persistent, as if you want to learn to dance yourself. Stop trying to get me to learn your specialty just so you can have me as your proxy when you don't feel like going to work."
Xiao Zhan couldn't help but smirk at the exchange. He hadn't intended to eavesdrop, but the twins' quarrel was too conspicuous to ignore.
The second twin, in a petulant manner, pouted and stomped his feet like a child denied a request. "Please~," he implored, trailing behind his brother.
"I said no, stop being a brat. If we didn't have the same face, I would've pretended I didn't know you," the first twin chastised, attempting to walk away faster, but their identical appearances made it challenging.
The second twin pouted at his brother's comment. Then, as if on cue, both abruptly halted in their tracks.
Xiao Zhan's sudden discomfort piqued their curiosity. His knees weakened, and he clutched the shelf to remain upright. His head throbbed, and an intense heat built in his abdomen. Though the store had been well-ventilated when he entered, he now felt as if he were melting, perspiring profusely.
His nape became hot and itchy, a sensation he'd never experienced after presenting as a beta for most of his life. He couldn't explain the sudden desire and urge he felt. The fog of confusion clouded his mind.
Before he could lose consciousness, he sensed two pairs of arms reaching out to support him. They caught him just in time to prevent him from collapsing.
"What the hell is happening to me?" he wondered, his thoughts hazy.
.
Wang Yibo and Wang Xie Yi, the twins, had entered the bookstore bickering. Yibo had initially gone alone to purchase a dance book but was followed by his twin brother, who was trying to persuade him to take up acting. Yibo had rolled his eyes countless times in response.
A fragrant scent wafted through the air, triggering their primal alpha instincts. Their eyes met, and they understood each other without words. Following the scent, they soon realized an omega in heat was nearby.
Their furrowed brows signaled their understanding of the situation. Their eyes dilated as they arrived at the source of the intoxicating scent, and their alpha instincts urged them to stake their claim. Their aggressive scent filled the bookstore, announcing their intentions to everyone present.
Their pursuit of the enticing scent had led them to the omega's location. The first twin emitted a low growl, his self-control slipping, while the second twin's scent glands released a potent aroma, making it evident to all that the omega belonged to them. As their alpha instincts took hold, they arrived at the scene, their fangs itching to break free. Xie Yi, in particular, struggled to control himself.
"Don't stop me!" he growled at his twin, his jaw clenched.
Yibo, still partially in control of his senses, swiftly administered suppressants to both of them, grounding them.
Once they regained their composure, they rushed to support the omega, who was on the brink of collapse. The alpha twins recognized his status: an omega in heat.
"Shit, he's in heat," Xie Yi remarked, his mouth dry.
Yibo, driven by his alpha urges, made a snap decision. "Support him from behind, I'll carry him on my back."
Xie Yi nodded, although he couldn't help but be distracted by the alluring scent of the omega.
Together, they rushed the omega to the hospital across the street, their pants sporting noticeable bulges. Although they didn't mind carrying an omega into the emergency room, the curious glances they attracted were somewhat embarrassing as they emerged from the waiting area.
