I leaned against the front desk of Adelaide's building and avoided looking at Umaima who wasn't trying to hide the evil glares she sent my way. She whispered curse words at me under her breath and each time it made me smile.

"I'd prefer you swear at my face than whisper it," I spoke when she whispered dickwad.

"And I prefer you disappear from existence but not all of us can snap our fingers and get what we want," she retorted.

I shrugged nonchalantly, "I can get what I want with a snap of my fingers."

"Good for fucking you, want a cookie with that bratty attitude of yours?"

"Nah, but a glass of whatever piss you drank this morning would be great."
She gave me the middle finger but I shrugged it off with a sigh, "You're gonna have to forgive me at some point, Umaima."

"No, I don't." She typed away loudly on her computer.

"Doesn't your God value forgiveness."

"My God values a lot of things, he'd be proud of me for not forgiving a bastard like you."

"You're contradicting your words by calling me a bastard."

She stops typing and looks at me with another glare of hers. I pray for whoever she ends up with in the future, because one look from her has me wishing I've had my grave ready since I was born.

"You haven't changed one bit, Umaima." I reach out to grab a lollipop from her personal basket of candy and she smacks my hand away.

"Get your haram hands away from my candy." She took the basket and shoved it inside a drawer. Without another glance, she went back to working. I'd bet she wasn't writing anything at all. This was her way of ignoring me. Typical Umaima.

"If there's nothing else," she said with a hefty breath. "You can leave."

"I'm waiting for Adelaide."

"That's the first," she mumbled under her breath.

"What?"

"Nothing," she stopped typing and met my eyes head on. "Adelaide's busy, Christian. She doesn't have time for you today."
"Unfortunately," I pulled at my tie to loosen it a fraction. "I need to see whether she has time for me or not."

She opened her mouth to say something but I raised a finger, burying all my teasing and smirks underneath. "Being best friends doesn't mean you have to act unprofessionally as her secretary, Ms. Rasool."

She stared at me with an unknowing expression. She couldn't believe this was me? Fucking surprise.

"Here's what you'll do," my heart was sweating. "You'll pick up that phone, dial whatever number is Adelaide's and let her know I'm waiting in her office." When she didn't move, I raised my brows. "Understood?"

A sneer appeared on her face, "Kutta."
I turned back to her and started to walk towards Adelaide's office. The silence here must kill Adelaide. Growing up, she spent evenings with me and my family a lot because she hated the silence at home.
She made my life peaceful and I made her life chaotic.

We were never good for each other, we never would've worked even if I hadn't caught Eda and my dad having an affair.
Adelaide was a dent in my life and I'm finding a way to fix that dent without ruining it even further. For some reason, she left a stain on my heart and my mind. No possible tool seems to be working.
Which is why I want to ruin Eda's company.
I needed to know what was in their shared bank account, but without Adelaide, none of that would be possible.
