I was suddenly awakened from the sleep I hadn't planned on having by a huge bang and various loud noises. I thought the house had collapsed the sounds were so loud. I looked out what was left of my bedroom window to look for signs of what was happening when I felt the house start to shake more and more violently. Pictures were falling off the walls. Books were falling from the shelves. The doors throughout the house were banging.

I knew what was happening as the same thing happened when I was younger and I was staying at my aunts house down south. It was an earthquake. And a bad one at that. I ran down my stairs when the walls suddenly started to collapse almost sending me flying down the steps. I frantically searched for my parents but no one was home. I ran for the house phone only to find the lines were dead. I was knocked to the floor by the ceiling lamp falling off.

A gut wrenching scream ripped from my dry throat as I was in so much pain. I reached up to touch my saw head slowly realizing the blood trickling down my face. Everything was shaking and collapsing and i was too scared and in shock to move my legs and run.  Once I regained focus on the situation I for the closet under my stairs where I thought it was safest and waited for it to stop. All I could hear was glass smashing as it hit the floor and crumbling off the walls. I layed down and tried to imagine something other than the current situation. This proved helpful as I god knows how fell into a deep unconscious state.

I was awakened by my phone buzzing repeatedly. I had fallen asleep. how? Did I seriously just sleep through an earthquake? I felt around the dark room for my phone and looked to see I had more than 40 messages from friends and family asking if I was okay and where was I.

Apparently most of the world had been hit by a 9.0 earthquake. The worse ever recorded in most of the world. I tried to stand up and but my legs were shaking and it was slightly wobbly. I turned the handle of the room prepared to see the damage done to the house. It was quite dark and there was dust floating in the air. There was picture frames, books the TV and cabinets sprawled across the floor but the house was still standing.

I cautiously walked towards the door trying not to trip on our family's possessions and considering my head was spinning from everything that had happened it would be quite easy. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Almost the entire of every house on my street was wrecked except for sections that had managed to stay up.

There was a few ambulances but not as many as there probably should of been considering the after effects of this earthquake. I left the doorway of my house and started to walk through what was only 3 hours ago a lovely street full of houses. I didn't bother shutting my front door as there really was no point. I got to the end of the road when I noticed the family's black range rover turn round the corner. My mum realized it was me standing in the road and came running out of the driver's side shouting my name repeatedly. She shouted and screamed at me apologizing about how she wasn't there and how I could be dead right now but my mind was wandering else where.

I was still in a bit of a haze about the whole situation. My mum explained how they'd been stuck at my uncles house an hour away because of the earthquake and they tried to get onto the roads but were stopped as a major bridge connecting our area to to my uncles had collapsed and they had to find alternate routes.
