My eyes slowly flickered open and I suddenly yawned attempting to stretch my arms but instead hitting something hard to my left earning a groan from them. I sat up quickly confused as to who the stranger in my bed was but as memories from last night came flooding back I remembered Ashton had come round last night. And he'd slept in my bed. I could feel the head ache emerging from the depths of my brain so stood up next to the bed when suddenly a pair of arms wrapped round my waist pulling me back down. I fell back where Ashton then engulfed me into his muscular arms and my face was pressed against his chest. Although he was squishing me I was too tired to try to move. "Stay a little longer princess. We don't need to get up just yet" he spoke extremely huskily in his morning voice.
A shiver made it's way down my spine at the nickname he called me and the way his voice sounded was something I hoped to wake up to every morning. I decided I didn't need to be productive quite yet and just lay with Ashton instead because I wanted to make this moment last forgiver. However long forever was. After about another 20 minutes I felt the bed shift and Ashton's arm leave my waist as I looked over my shoulder to see he had got up and walked over to where he'd left his shoes last night. "As much as i'd like to stay here with you baby I've gotta leave. I've got work in about a hour so" he said. "Ugh, come back later though maybe we can go out to town or something and get some food. We can call it a date!" I said moving to sit on my shins at the end of the bed. "Okay baby i'll come back here at about 2 when I get back".
I stood up and skipped over to him where he placed a quick kiss to my forehead and walked out to the balcony. He then jumped over the railings and climbed down the trelice like he did last night. It made me laugh as he could've just gone through the front door but no he had to take the more challenging route.
I then waved him goodbye and turned back to my room searching for my phone. I scrolled through some tumblr notifications when I came across about 15 messages from my friend Skye back home. I was surprised anyone actually still wanted to speak to me considering I hadn't really bothered contacting them. I taped on the message app and read through the paragraphs she'd sent me last night. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I realized the reason she was texting me was because over night multiple sink holes had opened over the London area and across wales and Scotland. She explained how many of the houses on her road had fallen through or been damaged but fortunately not hers. How had I not heard about this till now? I guess I hadn't seen any newspapers or TV yet since I spent last night and this morning with Ash.
I ran downstairs nearly tripping at the bottom to check the TV slightly panicking about what had happened. I was greeted with my mum sat on one of the stool at the table frantically scrolling through news reports and text messages attempting to reach family members and friends. However most of the phone lines were dead in the areas affected. I was sat on the edge of my seat as I watched the news intently waiting oncoming news about yesterdays events.
Nearly every News station on TV was broadcasting from a scene near a sink hole. A blonde middle aged news reporter read out a list of addresses which had been affected of which mine wasn't but nearly 40 on and near my road had. I sighed in relief as we still had a chance of moving back to the house. But then it hit me it was probably impossible as the sink holes were roughly a mile long each and it wouldn't be near safe to live there again.
All I really wanted right now was to get away from this town and go back home. I felt as if my every move was being watched and judged by someone. I feared for my safety here.
I bought my legs up to my chest and cradled my self genuinely fearing for my life as all past news stories stating the end of the world was near and signs of how to spot it flooded my mind. I couldn't push it all away and pretend like nothing was ever going to happen and the world would continue spinning forever. As that clearly wasn't the case anymore. I quickly sprinted off the sofa ,nearly causing my mum to spill her coffee all over her self, and aimed for my room where I then pulled my imac from its case and loaded it up. I frantically typed in evidence for 'the end of the world' and 'apocalypse dates' hoping for a straight forward answer. I clicked a Wikipedia article scrolling through endless dates when I came across one that made my heart stop.
"22nd December 2012"
That was only 30 days away. 30 days. 30 days until the earth could be nothing more then a pile of lifeless, burnt out rock. Or maybe not even that. Who says the end of the world could only cause the whole of civilization to die out and not completely obliterate everything in the entire universe. I was in too deep to back out now. My hands moved at lightning speed as I searched 22nd December apocalypse facts and how it would happen. I stumbled across an article named 'How to know when to prepare for the apocalypse'. I scrolled through my eyes scanning the page for something useful when a I saw a paragraph that had sign of the apocalypse in.
"There are hundreds of theories as to how the world could end but most of them however most have been scientifically proven to be only cause great damage and and minor death but not be strong enough to completely wipe out every human being. Some sign you should look out for are the following: rare weather phenomena occurring very often." The earthquake, strange colored sky, clouds, sinkholes. It was all making sense now. "dangerously high gas levels occurring naturally that are fatal to humans in large doses which could include carbon monoxide, peroxide, arsine and cyanogen. Another event that no one can outrun no matter how fast they are is acid rain. It will rain down extremely heavily for hours on end. This will definitely wipe out any living organism in site."
I then read on and learned how 22nd December was the last date on the mayan calendar. Some ancient Aztec thing. It makes sense why someone would think it would be the end of the world after that.
I slammed my Imac shut as all the new information registered in my brain. The end of the world was really happening. Or at least I thought it was.
