August 7th

6:12 p.m.



I laugh into the phone, taking a left turn one-handed. I spot my apartment just ahead. I could hear my mother on the other side of the phone, still talking, but I haven't been listening.

"Wait, wait, Mom. Hold on. I'm pulling in now," I interrupt and her speech stops, pushing the whole car into silence. I pull into my designated parking space and put the car in park. I hold the phone between my chin and shoulder as I grab my keys and my purse. I open my door and hop out. I am somehow able to shut the car door with my foot, making me grin with glee.
