No matter how many times I scrub my face, I can't seem to wash off the tear streaks marked on it. I spend more time in front of the mirror this morning than I ever have in my entire life. I didn't pull my hair back far enough so not only is my shirt soaked, my hair is too. I wipe my face with a towel, take one last look, then leave the bathroom. I move through my room without glancing toward all my unpacked clothes still on the ground.
Via and Kay are already downstairs getting breakfast. I told them I'd be down in a couple minutes. I can tell Via wanted to wait for me, but I honestly needed a few moments to myself before I went downstairs. I fell asleep in Via's room last night and didn't get out of bed until Via was shaking me awake, telling me it was time to get up.
I felt like I could have slept all day.
But I can't do that. Asher is planning to speak to us. To me. And I have to be awake for that.
