The ashen moon's color reminds me of your eyes
As dark skies paint a picture of what wasn't meant to be
I ache deeply for the moments that we secretly stole
Moments no one knew, moments I would never forget.
In solitude I found myself yearning for something,
Something lost in the rubble of the already broken walls
Your searing hand emanated a fire within that engulfed me in flames
It was a contrast to the coldness seeping through my thinning body.
My heart betrays the stoic façade I've relentlessly built
Crumbling ever so frailly in the softness of your touch
Time has never been kind to the likes of my kind –
Those who prey on the flesh of those living in fear.
My love, if providence played his part in this mayhem
I'm sorry if I dragged you with me at the hands of death
For a love that may as well never see the light of day,
I hope I loved you enough in my own selfish ways.
