All the lights are closed. I can barely see Elissa. I’m frightened. I have no idea what she wants to tell me. The scent in the room is horrendous but it doesn’t seem to bother Elissa. Elissa has her back turned away from me. She’s looking outside her large light tinted window.  I stay still. Not sure if I should speak up or wait till she says something. My hand has a tight grip on the doorknob. I’m not sure what Elissa wanted but from the tone Laura gave me, I’m afraid of what Elissa is going to do. Laura didn’t say much. The only thing she said was that Elissa wanted to see me but she had something in her voice that got me worried.

I decide to speak and ask Elissa what she wanted to talk to me about. Elissa doesn’t respond. I decide to walk closer to her, slowly. I see the light switch and turn it on. I can’t believe it. This is why she didn’t answer. The lady I was talking to wasn’t Elissa. In fact I wasn’t talking to anyone. What appeared as Elissa looking out the large window was actually her large plant that is usually on the left corner of the room.

The intercom turns on. It’s Elissa.

“Natalie, you seem to be causing a lot of problems in the Initiation process.” She says over the intercom.

I respond but she doesn’t hear me. She doesn’t continue speaking. I decide to run to the door to get out of her office but the door is locked. I’m beginning to panic.

“Don’t even bother trying to open the door.” She projects loudly.

I look around the room and all my mind keeps thinking about is the window. It’s the only other way out of here. However, I don’t know where this leads and how high we are. I push the thought away and look for any way to open the door. All of a sudden it becomes hard to breathe in here. The intoxicating smell from before has gotten worse and I can’t breathe. This time, I try to open the door by kicking it and hitting it with my shoulder. I hit the door with all the force I have left in my body and I slightly injure my shoulder.

I look around the room but Elissa has turned off the lights. I run to the light switch but they won’t turn on. Once my eyes adjust, I manage to see a camera on the far right side of the room. This is a test. They’re watching me, seeing how I can cope if ever I’m in a situation like this. My eyes lock on the chair behind Elissa’s desk. I run to the chair and lift it up above the ground. The only thing I care about at the moment is to get oxygen. The air has gotten worse and I can’t breathe at all. Once the chair is steady on my arms, I throw it at the large window. The only thing I see is a light crack has appeared at the spot I hit.

I take the broken pieces of the chair and smash the window harder. The crack getting larger, I decide to use my foot and kick it. I’m starting to lose consciousness from the air in this room. I decide the only last option is to pick up Elissa’s plant and throw it at the window.

Luckily it works. The window has shattered and a small part of the glass on the window remains. My breathing is starting to return to normal and I’m starting to regain my strength and consciousness. My only problem now is that I still don’t have a way out of here. I walk towards the broken window and look down. I seem to be about 20 feet above the ground. I’m not sure if I should jump out, or look for a safer way down. I see a ladder on the left side of the window. I’m not sure if I could reach it though. As soon as I go to jump, Elissa’s voice comes on.

“You’ve seen to have completed one of my tests Miss Prior. Most of the other initiates wouldn’t be capable of handling what you have just done. I’m quite impressed. However, getting out won’t be so easy.”

I’m happy to hear that I was right that it was a test, however my mind keeps thinking about what she means. Her voice has gotten to me. It’s taunting me.

“However, getting out won’t be so easy.”

I don’t understand what she means. What is she trying to tell me? That going out the window can lead me to my death? I walk carefully towards the window and see a group of men who have appeared down below. This is what Elissa meant. These men aren’t armed but I’m sure Elissa wouldn’t hire untrained men to stop me from getting out. She knows how good I am in training. Now she wants to test my skills with her men. I’m worried. I’ve seen these men fight and they can injure you badly with a single punch. My only way out is to fight. There’s nothing I can do. I have to fight back.

I back away from the window all the way to the door. I stay there for about a minute or so until I dash towards the window and land steadily on my feet.

I am ready. I am ready to fight.
