After the birth of his sister and the end of the Rebellion he is sent to Starfall where he watches his aunt Ashara throw herself from her tower in grief. His father does not legitimize him, instead named his second son as heir. Kanagi did not mind because he knew his father loved him dearly, but his mother did. Scared of falling into obscurity Kanagi becomes a prodigy with a sword and is knighted at the age of thirteen, by fourteen he becomes worthy enough to wield the sword Dawn, he is named Sword of Morning and Swears to protect Edric and Nyneave with his life.
