Since his training on Ruskaina began, Luffy had become accustomed to its climate. Every two weeks, the seasons changed. He learned to hunt for food, store water and firewood, and most importantly, how to use observation and armament haki. Observation Haki was easier to train alone and served to sharpen his senses. Rayleigh had recently left, but before he did, he gave him a challenge. A week and a half ago marked the beginning of autumn, and slowly, leaves began to fall in preparation for winter. Before dinner, he was to catch 100 falling leaves in a row, without fail. Simultaneously, he was to dodge any and every object blown by the wind. If any blowing debris touched him, be it a leaf, stick, pinecone, or butterfly, or he failed to catch a falling leaf before it hit the ground, he had two choices: start over or skip the meal.
"87" he whispered, snatching a leaf, and putting it into his sack.
The gentle but sharp waning of the leaves' scent as they flew past him, the crunch of colliding leaves, the wind's whistle changing in pitch and volume depending on the weight and size of the debris it carried, the subtle change in air pressure with each passing frond... He smiled.
"92 I bet I'm as good as you now, old man Rayleigh"
Jumping, ducking, weaving, he did his best to keep breathing. Unbeknownst to the captain, a visitor was approaching. As they reached the shore, Luffy caught wind of their presence, distracting him for the slightest second.
"Ninety Fi- DAMNIT" he shouted, as a stray stick hit his chest. Rayleigh wouldn't have lost focus, and his range is probably twice as far as mine. Guess I'm going hungry tonight.
Defeated, he sat on a log. His breath was heavy and he was hungry. "Guess it's Rayleigh checking in." He left the safety of his small campsite to greet his visitor, surprised to meet the Perfume Yuda at the beach front.
"Luffy! I'm here to visit, is that okay?" Hancock screamed hopping off of a serpent's head. He smiled.
"Of course! I was starting to get a bit lonely here. You did kinda ruin my dinner tho :("
She bit her thumb. "My deepest apologies, darling."
"It's whatever. I'm just glad you're here. It's a bit boring all by myself."
She squealed. He's glad I'm here!?!?
Truthfully he was. Her visit was a pleasant surprise.
