Another dead body, torn to shreds. Another bear attack they say, but she knew better. The young girl lingered in the shadows, blending in with the forest listening into the coroner and Sheriff discussing their findings.
"Another hiker near Nevermore, I swear one of those freaks are responsible." Eleanor scoffed, the sheriff has had it out for the Academy for as long she could remember.
But Eleanor knew better, the children were different and special in Nevermore but none of them were killers, at leased not yet. The storm rumbled through the skies giving the girl her notice to retrieve back to the academy.
Nevermore Academy was a beautiful large building, perfectly preserved original build. It was a home for many supernatural creatures, from sirens to werewolves and many more, the school had no limits.
"Our new roommate was charged with attempted murder." Enid met Eleanor in the doorway to their dorm, where the girl stood in surprise to find their sections decided into three equal parts.
"How embarrassing, everyone would know you can't get the job done." Eleanor glanced to one corner of the room, where the very pale girl with black pigtails stood like a rigid corpse.
Wednesday Addams was a legacy for Nevermore, her parents were well known, more importantly her mother who excellent during her time here. Though Wednesday seemed opposed to everyone and everything, nothing until now peaked her interest, though she'd never admit it, only if it was ever so slightly.
"Were you out in the woods again, Elle?" The girl hummed in response, retrieving to her own side of the dorm that was now separated by black tape on the floors.
"Another body ?" Enid received the same response, she had gotten used to her roommate not speaking much, in fact she believed that she was Eleanor's only friend, by her own choice of course.
Eleanor was in charge of taking Wednesday to her fencing class which they both attended, neither of the two girls uttering a single word to each other. They seemed similar, quite and closed off, rather emotionless. As much as Wednesday wanted to appreciate the lack of socialising from Eleanor, she promised she wouldn't stay at Nevermore for too long, hence there was no reason to create attachment.
Eleanor wasn't planning on taking particular interest in Wednesday, that was until she witnessed her fencing with Bianca, a self proclaimed queen of the academy. Wednesday challenged the siren to a duel match, first to draw blood.
It was clear the new girl was gifted, in many more ways than one. It was only a matter of time before she attracted the attentions of others, more likely the bad kind of attention.
Unfortunately for a Wednesday, Bianca took a swipe at the new girl who earned a gash above her left eyebrow, blood dripped down her face.
Later that evening, Eleanor found herself distracted from her work, she had yet to make progress on who or what might be responsible for the killings around Nevermore. Perhaps it was time to begin looking into the towns people rather than her peers.
But her new roommate spiked her interest, she wasn't like the other students. The others were too concerned about their social circles, how they fit in and who they were with.
Eleanor spotted the girl walking across the courtyard when she suddenly stopped and gazed above her. She focused on what she was staring at, noticing that a statue was inching closer towards the edge, closer to crushing Wednesday.
Eleanor broke into a run, hearing the girls name being called out and a boy jumping out to pull her out of the way. Simultaneously, Eleanor dropped to her knees sliding towards Wednesday, her arms out stretched above her head, sending out an invisible force to hold the gargoyle statue floating above their heads.
Eleanor panted breathlessly, glancing over her should to ensure the pair were alive. Though Wednesday was unconscious but alive, Eleanor raised herself back on her feet, pushing the statue back to its place on the roof.
It was a fellow student, Xavier who took the unconscious girl to the doctors office, Eleanor didn't feel the need to join them, instead she made her way to the roof.
The girl found it rather interesting, studying the surroundings on the roof, around the gargoyle. It was too heavy to push physically, the only explanation was a magical force.
Principal Weems insisted it was a natural occurrence, an accident. But these statues haven't budged in hundreds of years and suddenly they decide to fall on a girl her first day ? It didn't feel like a coincidence. The footstep prints on the ground confirmed it.
"Eleanor, I hope you don't mind Wednesday joining in on the ride. It's her first session." The girl simply shifted her gaze between the principal and her roommate, before sitting into the back seat of the van.
"Xavier told me you saved me." Eleanor was surprised to hear Wednesday speak up on their car ride, the girl hadn't said one word to her yet.
"Telekineses ?"
"And teleportation." Wednesday nodded in response, Eleanor expected that was as much of a reaction she'd receive from her.
Principal Weems watched the two girls in her rear view mirror, smirking rather pleased with herself, hoping the two most troubled girls under her care would find company in each other.
Eleanor waited in the local coffee shop while Wednesday had her session with the therapist Eleanor had been seeing herself for months. One hour a week, talking about your feelings and ideas, months of no progress but a complete waste of time.
The girl sat in the corner of the cafe, a book placed on the table before her, when a mug of her coffee came into view, being slid onto the table by the barista. Eleanor expected him to drop the beverage and leave to continue his work, but the girl felt him lingering on, watching her.
"You're from Nevermore."
"What gave it away ?" Eleanor replied sarcastically, dead toned. She didn't raise her gaze from the pages before her, not because she wasn't used to social contact but because her and men didn't mix well.
"I guess you're coffee is the only sweet thing about you." Humans, normies as they'd call them, normally didn't approach them and if they did, they definitely did not approach them with sarcasm.
Eleanor glanced up to study the young boy who towered over her, he was smirking down at her knowing well he caught her off guard. As she opened her mouth to pass a remark, she spotted a black figure running across the street from the corner of her eye.
Eleanor looked at her watch, Wednesdays session had only begun, she shouldn't be out yet. Smirking to herself, she realised the new girl was serious about not staying in the academy for long, she had escaped already.
