"We searched the woods, there is no body."
It was a mystery, a bigger mystery than the monster itself. Of course, the two girls weren't believed about that either. Eleanor was more than frustrated, but she expected nothing less from a human police officer.
But that wasn't the end of their night, it took another turn when Rowan showed up in principal Weems office, the sheriff announcing the case had been closed.
The normies might of believed this ridiculous show but Wednesday and Eleanor didn't buy it. But lucky for them, this occasion created an unlikely alliance.
"I work alone."
"As do I." Wednesday was first to strike up the conversation when they retrieved to their dorm, they both stood in the centre of the room debating their next moves.
"But, it appears as though our case might be connected." The girls nodded in agreement, reviewing their plans for the following day and Eleanor walking the girl through her findings so far.
The following day they had learned that Rowan had been expelled and was returning home, Wednesday setting off Thing who was instructed to follow him and figure out what was happening. Rowan acted weird before he left in the car, snapping at Wednesday was not something he was capable of, although regarding his unstable mental state and how he tried to kill her, it shouldn't of come much of a surprise.
Unfortunately when thing returned, it insisted that Rowan entered the bathroom but never came out, adding to the list of mysteries.
The days had passed with a blur and no great development, though Wednesday had discovered the monsters footprints turned from monster to human, after having a vision of Joseph Crackstone carrying out mass slaughter on all outcasts.
Wednesdays new target was Xavier, Eleanor insisted he wasn't the monster but Wednesday was too stubborn to listen and went ahead with her investigation.
Unfortunately for Xavier, he had two very well trained and very persistent detectives that entered his dark layer.
"What are you two doing here ?"
"This isn't looking very well for you, Xavier." The boy had drawn multiple paintings of the monster that had been haunting and murdering people in the woods.
"I'm not the monster, is this why you asked me to the Rave'n?" Eleanor glanced at Wednesday who looked rather guilty, though but she didn't have time to investigate when Xavier exploded and made them leave.
Though they weren't there to interrogate Xavier, he simply interrupted a hunt for DNA. Wednesday managed to find a loose tooth from the monster in its cave and now she had the boys too hence why the girls brought it to the sheriffs office for testing.
"I still don't believe Xavier is involved in this, however, I do not trust that galpin boy."
"Who said I did." Wednesday continued walking ahead after they left the police station, ignoring a topic Eleanor had brought up multiple times.
Eleanor couldn't shake the feeling she had around him, it was a constant itching at the back of her mind. He always seemed to be lurking and pop up at rather convenient times.
"The sheriff is in an awful mood, steer clear." Speaking of convenient timing, as they walked around the corner Eleanor walked right into the chest of barista boy, placing his hands on her shoulders to pull her away.
"You have a dance thing this weekend don't you ?"
"Yes, my date is my suspect that I must investigate."
"I've declined all invitation, no man is worthy of being my date." Eleanor replied, glancing at her newly manicured nails that were ready for Nevermore's infamous dance.
The barista boy hummed in response, glancing the girl up and down, he had a rather dark and hungry look filling his eyes before turning to Wednesday, his face turning to a sweet innocent expression.
"I definitely do not trust him now."
"Why don't you seduce him or something you do best." Though Wednesday hadn't been serious, it gave the girl a brilliant idea.
"Wait, barista boy." Eleanor jogged after the boy across the street, he turned rather confused.
"Why don't you come to the dance with me ?"
"You, just said that nobody has been worthy ? Do you consider me worthy ?" He had a smug smirk dancing on his features, if Eleanor didn't have such strong trust issues with him she might even consider him attractive.
"Count yourself lucky, collect me at eight." The girl turned on her heels before he could speak anymore, her irritation was growing impatient hence she worried she might snap at him.
Eleanor and Wednesday didn't get the night off like they had hoped for, Wednesday was still pursuing her lead with Xavier while Eleanor was attempting to get close to barista boy.
They knew each other names, Eleanor did a thorough investigation on many normies, the sheriffs son was one of the first and had reviewed it now that he had been joining them often. Tyler on the other hand, did a deep dive into Nevermore's social media the night after Wednesday attacked the boys in the cafe.
It wasn't hard finding Eleanor, she was a legacy student, her face was plastered all over Nevermore's website and social medias.
They had all hoped it was going to be a normal social gathering, but they didn't know what the night had in store for them.
