"Princess Marinette is turning 16 today." The maid named Chloe said happily. "She may still be a child, but isn't her beauty just like a lady's?"

"Yes! She's the most beautiful girl I ever met." The maid named Sabrina said as Juleka nodded her head vigorously.

"If I had beauty like hers, I could get any man I want." Chloe then said but she held no ill will toward the princess.

All three maids were unaware that Queen Lila was listening to the entire conversation. No! It can't be! I'm the most beautiful woman here. She thought to herself as she stormed off. Also, Marinette is still a child, how can she compare to my beauty?

A cloaked messenger had made his way to the palace and was granted an audience with King Tom. "I'm here for help! Our kingdom is in need of your help, King Tom." The messenger said.

"What kind of help? What happened?" King Tom questioned.

"Our kingdom was attacked by King Fléau without any warning. We were not ready! We need your help to protect our kingdom." The messenger responded.

"How bad is the situation?" King Tom asked.

"It is terrible. Our soldiers are being killed. Many families have already lost their homes. If we could handle it, I wouldn't be here."

"Tell your king that I'll be sending my best soldiers to fight and that I'll be coming too." King Tom said in a commanding tone.

"As you wish. I'll be going now." The messenger then bowed and left.

Tom then turned to his man at his right hand side. "I want you to alert the army that we are going to war and I want you to send my best soldier with the messenger." King Tom ordered. The man said nothing but bowed and followed the messenger out of the throne room.

Meanwhile Marinette had just finished putting on her outfit for the day. She may not have looked the part of a proper princess, wearing pants under a dress with slits in it for more freedom of movement but she was beautiful to look at. Alya and Tikki seemed to think so as they both started tearing up. "Alya, why are you crying?" Marinette asked skeptically as he pulled her beautiful long hair into a braid.

"You grew up so fast!" Alya cried happily. "Its seems like it was yesterday when I was able to hold you in my arms. And now look at the fine young lady that you've become." Alya then sighed as she looked at Marinette's attire. "But forget about that, why aren't you dressed for you birthday ball?"

"But I am ready." Marinette replied as she gestured to her outfit. She really did not want to get into how much bad luck she seemed to always receive on her birthday. So maybe if she didn't dress for a birthday ball, nothing bad will happen.

"You're going to the ball wearing that?" Alya stressed as she gestured to Marinette's outfit. "Hear me out young lady! A lot of princes and princesses are coming to this party, maybe you'll find your prince, and you're going to go wearing that?" Marinette just frowned as she started to drown Alya out. Don't get her wrong, she loves Alya but sometimes, her ranting is... just too much. "You have to dress up as a princess for your party."

"Fine, then I'm not going to the party." Marinette said as she started to walk out of the room. "I'm going to meet father and then I'm going out." Marinette then walked out of the room but her good mood soured when she saw the maids talking quietly amongst themselves and they all seemed quite sad.

"I can't believe that his majesty is going to war on his daughter's birthday." Maid Chloe said sadly and Marinette stopped short as she heard them talk.
