Evelyn finished tying her high-top Converse, then grabbed a light grey zip-up hoodie, and phone, and ran out the door.
When she reached Emily's house she was surprised to see all the boys, minus Paul looking out the window. The boys yelled and bolted to the front door, ripping it open they all sprinted towards her.
Jacob was the first to reach her, he wrapped his arms around her, lifting her into the air and spinning her around. Evelyn let out a loud laugh, "Well hello to you guys too," she said.
The second Jacob released her she was tackled to the ground by the rest of the boys. Emily walked out of the house to see Evelyn being crushed underneath the pile of rowdy boys, "Come on boys, I'm pretty sure she would like to be able to breathe." Emily called.
The boys quickly got off of her, Jared helping her up from the ground. Evelyn hopped on Jacob's back as they walked towards the house.
"Hi Emily," Evelyn greeted as they walked into the kitchen, her hoping off Jacob's back.
Emily smiled at her, "Hi Evelyn."
Sam and Paul walked through the front door, Jared immediately going over to Paul and ruffling his hair to try and annoy him. "Afternoon boys," Evelyn called.
Paul immediately perked up at the sound of his imprint's voice, "You got it bad," Jared whispered to him, earning a shove in return. Jared landed on the floor at Evelyn's feet, knocking her off balance in the process. Evelyn landed on the floor with a thud, Paul immediately rushing to her aid followed closely by Emily.
"Are you all right?" Emily asked.
Paul gently helped her get up off the floor. "What is with hot girls being clumsy?" Embry asked, receiving a glare from Paul.
Evelyn laughed as she was hauled to her feet, "I'm fine, just clumsy."
"Ya, so was Bella," Quil said, which in return earned a shove from Jacob.
Evelyn ignored the two as she went back to helping Emily cook dinner, but was shooed out. "Nope, I don't need any help in the kitchen. Why don't you go set the table out in the yard," she suggested. "Why don't you go help her," she said to Paul, shoving plates into his arms and pushing the two out the door.
Evelyn walked around the table placing plates, Paul following behind holding them. "So why did you move here?" Paul asked trying to make conversation.
"My sister opened an animal clinic here." she simply said, "But if I'm being honest, I was part of the reason we moved."
Paul raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
Evelyn took a seat on the bench, Paul placed the stack of plates down and sat next to her." I had a friend, her name was Sofia," Evelyn wore a fond smile at the memory of her best friend. "She was my best friend,"
"What happened?" Paul asked. She hesitated for a second and Paul began to regret asking, "You don't have to tell me."
"She was killed in a mall shooting. It was my fault. I was the one that made her skip school with me to go shopping." Evelyn explained, her voice cracking as she tried not to cry.
Paul quickly pulled her into a hug, "I'm so sorry you had to go through that," he whispered. "As long as I'm around you will never experience pain like that again," he softly spoke as he kissed the top of her head.
Evelyn smiled against his chest. Paul gave her a sense of comfort, something she hadn't felt since Sofia's death. "Thank you," she said as she pulled away. She wiped her eyes and stood up, "Now, let's get back to setting the table. By the smell coming from inside, I'd say dinner is about done.
Everyone sat at the table talking and enjoying the food that Emily had cooked. Music played in the background, coming from a speaker the boys had set up. 'Bartender' by Lady A came on, Evelyn smiled widely and grabbed Emily's hand, dragging her up, "Come dance with me.
Emily laughed as the two danced, not a care in the world. Paul watched Evelyn dance with a smile on his face. Jared nudged him, "Oh I'm never gonna imprint," he mocked in a deep voice. Paul rolled his eyes and shoved him.
As the song changed Evelyn walked up to Paul and grabbed his hand, "Come on guys, come dance." Paul smiled at her as they walked to where everyone else was dancing. He twirled her before pulling her closer and started swaying as 'I Want Crazy' by Hunter Hayes played.
Evelyn looked over Paul's shoulder to see a dark-haired girl standing at the edge of the woods watching them with a smile on her face. The red-heads softly smiled at the girl before watching her disappear into the woods.
