It was deep into the night when Summer suddenly shot up from her pile of blankets on the floor. Next to her, Miko was sleeping like a rock, half of her body hanging over the side of the bed, her nose almost touching the floor. The Japanese girl snored loudly.
Summer got to her knees and frowned, her head vibrating painfully. Suddenly, her felt a sharp pain jab at her brain and Summer grit her teeth.
Panic took ove her and Summer crawled to her bag, quickly shoving her discarded items and clothes inside before throwing it over her shoulder. By the time she reached the front door, it felt as it a bee was buzzing around inside of her head.
Stumbling outside, Summer failed to notice the green muscle car parked across the street. She also failed to notice the short staircase and she tripped down it, landing painfully on her hands and knees.
Her bags fell off and Summer didn't retrieve them, instead moving toward the road in a hurry as her vision swam and now bloody hands pressed against the sides of her head tightly.
Where did she live? Summer looked around rapidly, hoping to see her house, or the path to it, but even though Jasper was small, she hadn't even been there a week. She had no idea where home was.
Where Mr. Kayne and Ms. Hops were.
This had never happened to her before. Of course, Summer had had headaches, but this was no headache. It felt horrible and Summer knew it had something to do with her strange abilities.
Summer tripped, losing her coordination and hitting the grass of some random person's yard. Everything went in and out of focus; colors that were not meant to be in the night sky danced across it.
Something warm touched her arm and Summer flinched away, immense concern flooding through her body. Someone else jumped back from her, crying out in pain.
Then again, she felt them. Her vision focused in on Bulkhead's face for a moment before slipping back into a blurry mirage. He carried her to his car, ignoring the splitting headache that hit him the moment he grabbed her.
Driving back swiftly to Miko's house, his charge ran out of her house and toward them. He had called her when he first noticed Summer stumbling away from the house like a wounded animal.
"What happened?" Miko demanded, looking at Summer in panic.
"I don't know." Bulkhead growled, his processor threatening to explode. His engine roared loudly without his permission, trying to dispel the horrible feeling.
Summer looked at Miko and her eyes widened. "No."
Miko reached over. "What do you mea–"
"Ah!" Miko jumped back as if Summer had shocked her and touched her head. "Ugghhh."
"Miko?" Bulkhead's holoform went over to his charge as the girl fell to her knees.
"Ugh, Bulk, I think I'm gonna puke."
Panicked, Bulkhead put Miko in his alternative mode as well and then contacted Ratchet's personal comm unit.
There was a moment of silence before the medic responded. "What is it, Bulkhead, I'm trying to wo–"
"Ratchet, there's something wrong with Miko and her other human friend. I think they're sick." Bulkhead's holoform flickered out of existence and he started driving as own processor started short-circuiting. "I think there is something wrong with me too."
"You can't get human illness, Bulkhead." Ratchet huffed. "If they're sick just have them talk to Miko's foster parents, it isn't a big deal."
Bulkhead slammed on his brakes at an intersection, panic shooting through him at the sight.
