"Good morning, Ultra Mag–"
The commander turned around and held up his servo, motioning for the medic to be quiet. Ratchet nodded, but walked over as Magnus resumed monitoring the screens.
"How did this happen?" Ratchet asked lowly, referring to the human female sleeping on his desk.
"She was tired."
Ratchet glared. "I was asking about her location, not a lesson about why humans sleep."
"She climbed up there." Ultra Magnus didn't spare Ratchet a glance. "After being bored of conversation, she fell asleep. It is quite simple, Ratchet."
"She had a conversation?" Ratchet narrowed his optics suspiciously. "With you, of all bots?"
A pair of footsteps approached and both Autobots turned to see their leader. Optimus's optics landed on Summer before raising an eyebrow.
"Well done, Magnus."
Ratchet sputtered, but eventually gave up and pushed Ultra Magnus aside. "I'll take over monitor duty now."
The commander nodded and walked away. Optimus went after him, walking quickly to catch up to the briskly paced Autobot.
"How did it go?" Optimus asked. "Your conversation with Summer?"
"We made progress." Ultra Magnus informed him. "She thought I was going to eat her."
"That does not seem like progress." Optimus frowned.
"We progressed from me being a carnivore to light conversation and then sleeping."
Optimus offered a small smile. "That is the furthest any of us have gotten with her. It seems your streak of social incompetence has reached an end."
Magnus gave his superior and old friend an annoyed glare. "She has only been out of a coma for two days."
"Time enough for me to assign her a cybertronian guardian." Optimus nodded. "I would appreciate it if you took the responsibility."
"I thought Smokescreen was."
Optimus shook his head. "Smokescreen has been here longer, and he wants a charge, but he is too inexperienced and emotional to fully trust with one. Besides, I do not believe Mr. Kayne would be very pleased with us if we assigned Smokescreen to her."
"What of Ratchet?"
"Ratchet is rather... rude."
Magnus huffed. "And I am not?"
"You're... something." Optimus frowned. "Besides, if something similar to what happened in Nevada was to repeat itself, Ratchet would not last long enough to stop her. He's old."
"Don't let him hear you say that." Ultra Magnus glanced over at the medic and saw that the other Autobots were coming into the room.
"We will continue this conversation at another time." Optimus said, knowing Magnus wouldn't want to speak so freely with his subordinates around. The Prime walked off to go greet them.
Ultra Magnus turne his attention to the smaller doors as they were thrown open. Mr. Kayne marched out, followed by Miko and June.
"Where is she?" He demanded.
"On the m–"
"Hiii."
Ultra Magnus looked down in surprise. Summer was standing a little ways behind him.
"Have long have you been there?" He asked sternly.
"Not long enough to have heard a single word in the conversation you and Optimus had about me." Summer smiled meekly.
