Summer hummed quietly from her place on the couch, where she was moving her fingers across the strings of a guitar that Mr. Kayne had brought her. Ratchet had woke up a while ago and joined her and Ultra Magnus in the main room, but he didn't ask her to stop.
Perhaps it was because he didn't want to upset the new human, or perhaps it was because he liked the soft, melodious music. It was as if Summer had tamed the most grumpy, hard-headed bots in the base first. They listened to her for a few peaceful hours before the other bots began to arrive.
Summer set down her instrument and smiled tiredly as Mr. Kayne walked over with breakfast.
"I don't recall you being an early riser," he stated, handing her the bag and sitting down.
"I don't recall being–" Summer shut her mouth abruptly.
"Yes?"
"I don't recall being surrounded by cybertronians with PTSD."
"Uh," Summer took a bite of her food and said something unintelligible before quickly scarfing down more to avoid the subject.
She flipped around and put her forearms on the back of the couch so she could observe the Autobots. Everyone seemed quiet and calm, still getting used to being awake, just as most of the humans were.
Ultra Magnus had been up for hours already talking to Summer and he was eager to get work done. Several glares and grumbles were directed his way as he ordered his subordinates around.
Summer's attention drifted off to the side and she tensed a little, noticing Ratchet was staring directly at her.
"Hi," she waved shyly with a small, dopey smile.
Her greeting seemed to knock him out of his thoughts and Ratchet acknowledged her by tipping his head before quickly walking across the room to Optimus. The Autobot leader set down the cube of energon he had been feeding to their groundbridge as Ratchet started talking.
Both of them glanced her way for a short moment before leaving. Summer frowned.
"Yes!" Miko cheered and plopped down next to Summer happily. "So, the bots are tired, and Ratchet is gone now, so why don't you and I play them a little something to wake them up?"
Summer frowned. "But I don't have any equipment for rock."
"All good." Miko grinned, shoving a microphone into Summer's hands. "You can sing, and I'll play my electric guitar."
"Oh great," Mr. Kayne leaned back. "This again."
Summer looked at the microphone and frowned, "What do you want me to sing? We haven't practiced at all. I don't want to embarrass myself in front of the Autobots."
"You'll embarrass yourself either way," Jack snorted. "They hate Miko's music."
"We all do," Raf sighed, standing up and walking to the ladder so he could ask Bumblebee to hide in his subspace.
"What?" Summer gasped. "They hate rock? That's so sad!"
"I know, right!? We gotta liven it up in here!" Miko exclaimed. "All I need is my sidekick."
"Sidekick?" Summer demanded. "In your dreams, Nakadai."
Miko scoffed, "Oh, feeling brave now, are you? We'll see which of us is the better rockstar, Summer... hey, what's your last name?"
"You don't want to know." Summer chuckled.
She flicked the microphone and it whined for a moment before evening out. Miko ran her fingers over her guitar strings, grinning wickedly when they loudly thrummed through the room.
