Maegor was brutal, demanding and cruel. He was a born warrior and his skill was unmatched. He lived for the thrill the adrenaline rush that fighting in war, tourneys, battles. He was the youngest and finest knights of his time.
He was on top of the world until his little sister starting taking his spotlight.
A woman winning battles, dragon riding, getting praise left and right for her skills and beauty. But if that wasnt enough to drive Maegor mad, his sister Davina loved to take every opportunity to prove herself better than him.
Maegor was quarrelsome, quick to take offense, slow to forgive, and fearsome. He was unyielding, and unbending. He preferred fire and steel over settling issues through discussion. Davina took after him in that sense which is probably why for their entire childhood they only grew to hate each other more and more.
Maegor would get mad, Davina would purposefully twist the knife until he snapped. While Maegor was tall, muscled, and rugged, Davina was curved with elegance and speed.
For years Davina bonded with her dragon Fury, he was all black, and at a glance you would think him docile and tame. He sparkled in the day and blended into the night. His face was large and his eyes were wide and he always seemed to smile when he saw Davina coming to greet him.
But he was vicious. Fury needed only a glance and it was as though him and Davina were one and the same. Maegor envied that. Davina had teased him saying he must be scared of dragons but barked back at her that there was only one that was worthy of him.
Balerion.
The Black Dread. Their father, king Aegon rode him and Maegor thought himself a king so no other dragon would do.
Davina and Maegor were born of Visenya Targaryen, their half sibling Aenys was from Rhaenys womb. Their father had married both of his sisters, Visenya his elder and Rhaenys his younger. Everyone always said that Rhaenys was Aegon's favorite.
By the time Davina and Maegor were born, Rhaenys had already passed and Aegon was crushed. Visenya raised them on dragonstone, she raised Davina to be a strong woman, independent, never be pushed around. Davina Targaryen's name would be remembered for centuries to come and her ancestors would stir up just as much trouble.
Aegon had been the first king. He picked kings landing as the home of the royal family, he started the small council and he created the iron throne. Taking the swords of his defeated enemies and forging them together, for all to remember his conquest.
He was a smart man, educated himself on the regions and lands, the customs of the people and their history so he would be a better ruler. Then he made them all bend the knee. One by one they dropped or burned at Vhagar or Meraxes lips.
When Meraxes and her master, Rhaenys died in the dornish wars the kings guard was established, the dornish growing more confident after killing a dragon and a queen, the King Aegon was constantly under attack, Visenya choose the men personally that would be defending her husband.
Visenya was ready for another war with dorne but Aegon settled on peace with the dornish princess. The last 24 years of Aegon's reign were peaceful, they called it the Dragon's peace. That peace did not extend to the Targaryen children.
