I got out my truck and ran into the school, the adrenaline at knowing something bad happened to my best surpassed any rational thoughts right now. The 16° weather wasn't nothing to me right now, the heat swallowed me when I walked in and I rushed to the office.
They're used to me here, the teachers and most of the older students still looked at me in worry through the glass windows. I stopped when Mosi started banging on the glass wall and running to catch up with me on the other side. There was a confused fear in his face and I'm sure they hadn't told him what was really going on.
"Shit...." I nodded to one of the teachers in his class and opened the room door, I picked Mosi up and rushed back down the hall.
"Kennie scared.....?"I looked at him, I felt myself going back to 2 years ago......we all struggled to explain that his parents weren't coming back. Everyday we had to remind him.....we were all also reminding ourselves of the pain that we understood.

"I dunno....but let's be strong for everybody right now, remember......? A man has to always stay strong for the special women in their lives. Kennie and titi are special for you, right.....?" I gave him a tight smile. I hope that's good enough, but I know he don't believe me.
"Yeah, I'm strong......?"
"Always.....stronger than me and your uncles......" I weakly tickled him and Mosi accepted with his giggles. I opened the office door to find Kennìe crying in Kandace's arms and Taymar standing next to them on her phone.
