Chapter 5

8th Grade, 2018

Kendall looks at an odd Roy and Kate who seemed to look at anywhere except him. He decided to ignore it but can't help feeling that there's something up.

"Kendall," Roy finally speaks.

"Yeah?"

"What do you think of dating a friend?" Roy asks, glancing over at Kate and then to Kendall.

Kendall hums, not sure what to reply and not sure why Roy is asking that question.

"I'm not allowed to date and besides, I don't think I'll date a friend either. Why?"

Kendall suddenly wakes up from his sleep, his heart thumping. He remembers his dream, that happened such a long time ago. He took a deep breath in before standing up from his bed. He checked the time on his phone.

7:50am

"Oh, fuck..."

He hurriedly puts on any clothes he could find, then came out of his room only to find no one was in the house. They must have left without him but that wasn't the problem right now. He swiftly grabs his bag and head out of the house, and bolted for it.

From his house to the school, walking alone is a 5 minute walk but he walks like a turtle so normally
It takes him ten minutes. And he usually doesn't walk to school. By the time he has arrived into the school, the bell has just rung. He thanked god for him able to run fast as he made his way to his first class of the day.

"Rough morning, Dally?" Kate teases him, staring at his hair that was all over the place.

He sets his bag behind the chair, swiping his hair back, "Don't even get me started."

Time passes by and it was already the end class of today.

"As a project, I will be assigning you and a classmate to be partners by last name." Kendall and Daisy looked at each other. Daisy pouted, knowing they won't get partnered up. Kendall mouthed a "sorry" to her.

This time, he sat next to Liam. Well, Daisy told him to. Something about now he can focus on her. He doesn't quite understood what she meant by that but he did what he was told.

"Rowan and Shane, you are partners," the teacher announced. Kendall and Liam locked eyes for a moment before high-fiving one another.

"Nice, but do you remember what we're supposed to be working on?" Liam asks.

Kendall nods, "Yeah. It's about making a DNA and RNA model. We have to present it on Thursday, which gives us a two day limit."

Liam raises a brow up, "Now, that's an excuse to meet your parents, then we can finally hang out."

"You're right," Kendall says almost in a whispered voice.

"You know," Liam locks eyes with Kendall, "It could be a three day limit if we start today."

"Ah, so you're Liam Shane?" Kendall's dad asks, giving his hand out which Liam took and shook.

"I am, sir," Liam cheekily says making Kendall's dad laugh. "Must have heard a lot about me?" Liam glanced at Kendall.

"Oh boy, you wouldn't believe it. My son was set on convincing me for him to hang out with you, listing all your good qualities and-"

"Dad!" Kendall cuts his dad off, feeling embarrassed at the overshared information.

"Seems like Kenny boy feels timid," his dad laughs. "Well, I heard you're here because of a project that you're gonna be working on together?"
