PENNY
The last of the summer warmth is fading from Watford, and the ground is a carpet of reds and browns. Aggie and I are making our leisurely way back to the Cloisters, when-
"Hey, Pen?"
I glance at her, "yes?"
"I think I know why I broke up with Simon."
My eyebrows rise, "oh?" Both Aggie and I have avoided the topic of the breakup for a few weeks, it would put me in an uncomfortable situation if she started bitching about him.
She tucks her hair behind both ears, something she only does when she's nervous. "I, uh, wasn't attracted to him."
I smile wryly, "I had figured that much out, believe it or not."
"And I like, didn't want to do anything. Like he touched my boob when we were making out, and it was so weird."
I stare at her; I would rather not be hearing this. When have I ever given the impression I want to hear about their sex life?
Aggie seems to sense my awkwardness and says in a rush. "Yeah, but not because of him, because I'm asexual."
"Oh... that's good?" I give her an awkward little pat on the back, "I'm glad you told me."
She looks at me uncertainly, "it's fine... right?"
I look at Aggie for a long moment, everything fitting into place. "Of course it's fine, it makes a lot of sense actually." I place my arm around her shoulders, "you know, I think Simon would really appreciate knowing, only if you want to tell him of course."
She nods, "yeah, I want to go back to being friends, and I think he deserves to know."
I hug her, "no rush."
SIMON
Baz points at the rows of little seedlings we planted, "they need water."
I level my wand at the garden bed, " into every garden, a little rain must fall. " A jet of water shoots out and I quickly swing my wand away from destroying the seedlings. Instead, I end up soaking Baz. He lets out an extremely undignified yelp and jumps away.
"Damnit Snow!" He growls, "that was really high pressure."
I try not to grin at his sopping form, his dripping hair is hanging is his eyes, and his shirt is clinging to his toned-
My train of thought is interrupted when I hear Baz say, " into every garden, a little rain must fall. " Suddenly, I am hit with a jet of water.
"Stop!" I squeal and start to run away. And then the strangest thing happens, Baz laughs.
"Okay, okay come back, I'll dry you off."
Doing gardening work with Baz is surprisingly fun.
After we are both dry, we begin to make our way back to the library.
"I would say the afternoon went well, wouldn't you?" I say, nudging Baz's arm.
"Better than expected," he admits grudgingly. "We still haven't found a good watering spell though."
"Maybe we can ask Dev and Niall." I like Dev and Niall. After our gardening sessions, Baz and I will often meet them in the library and Penny will join us. They are much nicer to me than Baz, which he seems to be very annoyed about.
"Simon!" Aggie is striding towards us from across the courtyard, "I need to talk to you."
I glance at Baz, and he sneers at me, "off you go, Snow."
