THE PICKUP . chapter 3

    Wednesday was getting ready for her café 'girls night out' with Enid. She was questioning whether this was a date or not. She was getting all these mixed signals; but it was whatever. Romance was the least of her concerns when mysteries were hiding in every corner of Jericho, especially behind Nevermore's very own secure walls. She looked down at the sketches of creatures and notes on her desk beside her printer and a trashcan filled with scrapped pages that were meant to be for her second novel. She crumpled up the page that she was working on a few hours ago and grew to dislike as the story began to drag forward. Ever since she had walked in on Enid, she couldn't work properly or think straight. Why was she doing all of this? Romantic teen angst drama was never exactly her forté.

    “Verdammt...” Wednesday groaned under her breath, rubbing her temples with frustration as she kept her cold expression - as always, of course. Not even the slightest of sly smirks peeked onto her lips. Was she really speaking to herself at this point? And she had thought the feeling of slowly going insane would be pleasurable. After all, many of her Addams Family ancestors quite enjoyed it and endured it, so why wouldn't she continue the family legacy?

    She grabbed a black dress from her closet that Bianca had assisted her in picking out at the very beginning of the semester. She changed into her clothing, adjusting it a bit and looking in the mirror that reflected her pristinely, and, admittedly, quite perfectly. It was nothing to fancy, but it was fit for going out with Enid. Thing Addams turned around, giving her a supportive thumbs up. She walked to the door, taking a sharp inhale before opening the door.

    She was presented with a very happy Enid and some black dahlias - named after her favorite unsolved murder case. She didn't smile, but did take her hand. Her skin was frosty cold, like she was dead.
