Bucky and I left the museum together. He walked a couple paces behind me, still weary, despite the fact he said he'd trust me. I understood though. I lead him out of the museum, putting my hood back up once we were outside. I paused, glancing around, seeing if there was any SHIELD agents to worry about. Bucky came up beside me, glancing around as well.
"Coast is clear." I muttered, before continuing. He didn't say anything, as he followed. We walked for a while, until I hailed a taxi to us. "Get in." I gestured. When he hesitated, I rolled my eyes, and climbed into the back seat, moving to the opposite end. He got in as well.
"Where to?" The driver asked. I gave him Tessa's address, before taking my burner phone out of my pocket.
"Who are you messaging?" Bucky asked quietly, watching me closely as I sent a text.
"My friend." I muttered. "We're going to her house, I wanted to give her a heads up." I explained, closing the phone and putting it back into my pocket. "We should be there in about twenty." I added, then looked out the window. The taxi drive was silent.
Arriving in front of Tessa's house, I handed the taxi driver cash to pay for the ride and a tip, before bidding him a quick farewell. Bucky stood beside me, glancing around. I looked up at him, and sighed quietly, before walking up the driveway. At the door, I knocked twice.
"You can trust her." I assured him, as he continued to look around.
"There's cameras." He pointed out, eyeing one on the deck.
"They're playing old feed." I explained, as the door opened. Tessa looked at the both of us, before quickly ushering us inside.
"I'm so glad you're safe." She said, after closing the door. She pulled me in for a quick hug, which I winced slightly, as she put a bit of pressure on the wound. she pulled back quickly and looked me over concerned. I gestured towards my waist.
"A bullet grazed me. It's nothing serious." I explained. She shook her said, clicking her tongue quietly in disapproval. Bucky looked down as well, noticing the blood for the first time. His eye brows furrowed in a mild concern.
"Come on, I'll get you cleaned up, then we can figure out what to do." She explained, guiding us further into her house. We went into the kitchen, where she told me to sit on a chair. I did, taking my sweater off, leaving my torso in a black tank top. I lifted the shirt a little, and pulled my jeans down enough that she could see the wound better.
Dried blood circled the open cut, fresh blood still spilling out slightly. Tessa grabbed a medical kit she had at the top of her pantry, and opened it up, before taking out some gauze and cleaning spray.
"Why didn't you say you were hurt?" Bucky asked, watching as Tessa sprayed the wound.
"Would it have made a difference?" I asked, scrunching my nose as a stinging pain rushed over me. Bucky was silent after my comment.
"You need a couple stitches." Tessa declared, once the wound was cleaned enough she could see. "With your advanced healing though, it should be fine in the next two days or so." She added, I nodded, as she got a needle and surgical thread. "So, care to explain what's going on?" She added, as she knelt back down, preparing to stitch me up.
"SHIELD retired me." I answered simply. She glanced up at me briefly, then looked back at the wound and stuck the needle in. I let out a sharp gasp, as a whole new pain burst through me. My fists clenched, as I resisted the urge to punch Tessa. "Told me if I didn't comply they'd shoot me on the spot." I added in a shaky breath. "Or if I contacted James." I tacked on, glancing at Bucky, who was watching with a neutral expression. When I said his name however, his eyes moved from Tessa stitching, back up to me.
