The names on the wall stared back at me, reminding me of the legacy of SHIELD. I frowned, staring at one name in particular.
James "Bucky" Barnes.
Peggy, in a grand fight against some of the men who were running things, stood her ground getting his name on the wall. She believed wholeheartedly that he belonged with the other men and women who had died, for his help during the war. I remembered being woken up a year or so after his name had been added, and finding tears welling in my eyes like they did so many times in the first couple decades. Though lots of time had gone by for everyone else, for me it had only been maybe a year or two.
A new name had been added to the wall. I looked over at it, and frowned.
Phil Coulson.
Steve had come to my apartment after their final fight, to tell me about Coulson. My reaction to the news was much bigger then I had fully expected. I had thanked Steve for telling me, and for helping in the fight, before closing my door and sliding down it in a fit of tears.
"You okay?" Steve asked as he walked up beside me. I glanced at him from the corner of my eyes, then focused back on the names.
"I'll be fine." I muttered. It'd been two months since the battle in New York against Loki's army.
"It's Tuesday." He stated simply. I nodded slowly. "Want to get pizza?" He added. I smiled softly.
The first Tuesday after Coulson died, Steve had shown up with a bag of Chinese food. We've been continuing the weekly dinner since then. I appreciated Steve's attempts to fill that spot so willingly.
"Sure." I sighed, glancing over at Bucky's name. Steve titled his head, and followed my gaze.
"Bucky." He breathed out, stepping to the side, so he was closer to the name. I nodded.
"Peggy Carter fought to get his name up." I explained simply. He chuckled under his breath.
"Sounds like something she would do." He nodded. He sighed, then turned to look at me. "I'm going back to the apartment, you coming?" He added, I shook my head.
"I'll meet you later. I'll get Pizza on the way." I replied. He nodded once, then left. I sighed, alone again, before walking further into the headquarters.
With a special access card, and code, I got the elevator to take me down, deep into the headquarters, where only high level agents could get to. I hummed quietly to myself as I shot down. When the doors opened again, I stepped out, nodding to a couple of agents who were waiting to go back up.
I walked down a long hall, passing a few doors, each locked with passcodes and high security. I walked until I reached a very specific door, and punched in the four digit code. It clicked open, and I walked in.
"You're late." Agent Phil Coulson said, sitting in his hospital bed. I looked at him and nodded, smiling apologetically.
"Sorry." I said, walking over to the chair beside his bed. "Steve stopped me on my way out." I added. He nodded.
Fury had told me about them deciding to fake Coulson's death, after his injuries. He told me also, after Steve had told me Phil was dead. It had been a rollercoaster of emotions for me.
"Doesn't he already use up all your time? Why dose he have to impede on mine?" He complained, I chuckled.
"Two months ago you were practically begging for him to impede on our time." I commented, he nodded, a small smirk on his face.
The two months he'd been healing, had given him a much needed break from the job. I'd started seeing a slightly different side of Coulson, where he made more jokes and showed just a little bit more emotions. It had been nice.
