"Please, I didn't steal anything." The man in front of me said. He was sitting in a white kitchen chair, staring at me with wide eyes. I was sitting across from him, with a gun neatly on my lap. My hair was braided out of my face, and I had on an black outfit.

"SHIELD believes otherwise." I said simply. His lip was cut, and he had a bruise forming on his right temple. He had tried to run. The man had short sandy brown hair, that was covered in sweat from nerves. His eyes were a bright green, that stared with fear.

"Please, you need to believe me." He begged. He had only fought me momentarily, before I knocked him out. I had propped him up on the kitchen chair and waited patiently for him to wake up. When he did, he started to defend himself.

"Then why did they send me after you?" I asked. I didn't have my gun pointed at him, but still had it in my lap as a fear tactic. He looked at me, his green eyes wide with desperation, before he sighed.

"I used to work for SHIELD." He started, looking down at his hands that were in his lap. "I found something out that could destroy a lot of things, if the right person found out." I furrowed my brows.

"If the right person found out? What did you find?" I asked, he sighed again, then met my gaze once more.

"HYDRA has infiltrated SHIELD. Some of the leaders work for HYDRA." He answered. I felt my heart pound heavily in my chest suddenly. "They probably only sent you to find me, because they couldn't." He added. I stared at him, my lips in a line while I thought.

"How'd you find out HYDRA has infiltrated?" I asked. He looked around, and paused, staring out the window. I slowly turned my gaze over, trying to see if I could see anyone out there. "I wasn't followed." I said, looking back at him. He nodded.

"It was an accident really." He started. Though, before he could continue, my phone started to ring. Startled, I took it out of my pocket, and answered.

"Hello?"

"Barnes, it's Maria." She said, sounding panicked. I furrowed my brows confused. She never called me.

"Maria? Wh-"

"He's awake." She said, cutting me off. "He killed Fury. We need you back here immediately." She added. With wide eyes, I stood up and holstered my gun. The man followed me with his eyes, as the phone line went dead.

"I have to go." I said, turning towards the main door in the apartment. "I won't tell SHIELD where you are, but you keep that information to yourself." I added, glancing over my shoulder at the man. He nodded vigorously, the nerves still very evident in his eyes.

"I won't say a word." He breathed out. I nodded once, before leaving the apartment, to get back to New York as quickly as I could.

I ran back to the airport where the SHIELD jet was waiting. I pushed passed people and ignored the strange stares I got as I did. My focus was getting back to New York as quickly as possible. So when I arrived back at the jet, panting from the long run, I climbed on immediately.

"Agent Adams." One of the agents said, as he stood up, seeing me.

"We have to go and get to New York as quickly as possible." I demanded. He looked at me, his brown eyes squinted slightly in confusion.

"We're not meant to leave for another day." He pointed out, I sat down, and shook my head.

"We have to go now." I said sharply. He glanced at the other agent in the jet, who's eyes were a soft green, then back at me.

"All due respect." He started. "Our orders are to leave tomorrow." I glared, and stood up quickly, unholstering my pistol as I did. With no hesitation, I pointed it directly at him, my finger hovering over the trigger, the safety off. He stared at me. Frozen, while his partner's hand hovered over his own gun.
