Chapter #8|A mission

Y/N POV

A loud knock on my door wakes me up.

Before I can open my eyes, someone walks into my room.

"Y/N, we need you" Nat stands next to my bed, her arms crossed.

"Wha- What's happening?" I look at her, trying to read her expression.

"We have a mission and we need your help" Nat sighs "I don't want to put you in danger, but you're our only hope"

"Yes, yes of course"

I quickly put on my clothes and go into the living room. Everybody is sitting at one of the big tables.

"Good. Y/N, you can take a seat" Tony tells me and points to the chair next to Thor.

Thor gives me a nervous smile, I try to ignore it and not show any emotions back.

"Alright, so. We have located one of the last bunkers that contain Hydra's research. There is an issue though" Tony shows us a hologram of a weird ball "This ball is what we are looking for, it's a-"

Tony gets cut off by Thor "a compressed tesseract."

"Yes, thank you Thor" Tony sighs "we need it because it can cause mass distruction. The ball itself is unstable, we have located a graveyard just outside the facility. With closer inspection of our drones we have determined that the corpses...or what's left of them, belong to the Hydra employees."

Tony pulls up an image of some blue dust.

"Is that what's left of the employees?" Nat asks and keeps glancing at me.

"Yes, most likely that is the case" Tony turns everything off.

"But what do I have to do with any of this?" I ask, still confused.

"You are the one who will have to take the ball" Tony says, sounding like it's just picking up a pizza from a restaurant.

"But what if I also turn into dust?" I ask, raising my voice a bit.

"You won't" Thor and Nat say in unison.

The room goes quiet, maybe they're waiting for my voice, my opinion.

"I will do it" I say loudly, even though its quiet, I feel like being loud is the only way of changing the mood.

Tony nods and continues to go over the plan.

2 hours later

"now rest, we leave at 3 am" Tony says and leaves the room.

I start heading back to my room when suddenly someone taps my shoulder.

"Lady Y/N, may I talk to you in private?"

I look around and see Thor standing behind me, a worried look on his face.

"Yes, of course"

I lead him to my room, as I enter the room I can smell a faint scent of cologne, somehow the smell is familiar.

Thor sits down on the couch and I sit on the arm chair.

"Lady Y/N, I don't think you should go to the mission" He says, his eyebrows furrowed.

"Unfortunately, it is not my choice" I sigh, feeling nervous about the mission.

'I could just kill him now and be done with it, but I'm also curious about the tesseract'

"You can try all you want to talk me into staying, but I won't" I try to sound angry, he looks clearly shocked.

"I understand Lady Y/N, I shall go and rest,so should you" He stands up and quickly runs out of the room, shutting the door loudly behind him.

I change into my pijamas and head to bed.

I can feel my eyes closing.

A few moments later I wake up in a meadow,the sun is shining and it's warm.

I look around and I see one of the many childhood houses I have.

"Y/N! Y/N!" I can hear someone calling my name inside the house.

'It's mum's voice, she's back'

"Mum?" I yell and start to run towards the house.

When I enter the house, everything grows quiet. I scan around the corridor and see someone sitting in the living room, their back to me.

"Loki?" I finally realise who it is.

"Why, yes of course!" He stands up and turns around to face me.

"Why are you here? Where's my mum?" I look around and see nothing, no one.

"She's not here, she just left... What does this memory contain?" He asks, smirking.

"C-contain? What are you doing here first!"

"I want to find the memory that can break you, I know that you want to kill one of the avengers, that's why you're here." He laughs when he notices my shocked face.

"Though I am yet to find out who, it's still funny to guess. I want chaos, I bathe in it all the time"

"You're insane..." I say gripping a nearby vase.

"Oh dear, you have no idea what insane actually is. I've been waiting for someone to show up, to create havoc amongst the avengers so I could take over Midgard!"

I throw the vase at him but he just disappears and reappears in front of me, maybe half a metre away.

He places his hand on my head and the house starts to melt.

The scenery changes and we are now in the café I used to work in.

"Not it either" He sighs, gripping my head tighter.

I try to pull back, but I can't, my body is stiff.

He laughs and the scenery changes once again, now its a small room of concrete walls.

"This is where they tried to cure me" I say, not thinking about it too much.

"What did they do to you-" before Loki can finish the sound of an alarm clock rings.

I wake up, drenched in my sweat.
