Chapter 10 - Friends or foe?

Black Canary could tell Vance had a lot on their mind. Usually during training sessions, Vance could almost beat her when fighting. But today, Vance was falling down a lot more.

"You're not focused, Vance. Your head isn't in the game." Dinah commented, pointing a wooden staff at the young hero. Vance panted heavily as she leaned back, her two hands supporting her.

"Yeah I know, I'm sorry." Vance muttered, wiping the sweat off her forehead with her towel. "I'll try to be more focused."

Truth be told, Vance doesn't think she can focus when all she can think about is food, music and Klarion, obviously. Dammit I feel like an idiot.. Vance thought to themselves when they realised she had been thinking about the Witch Boy.

Klarion seemed nice yet rude and terrifying. But part of Vance secretly wants to be the Lord of Chao's friend. However, after the conversation or rather 'argument' they had with each other, Vance wondered whether they were friends or foe.

"Is there something bothering you?" Dinah asked her protege as she took a sip from her water bottle.

Vance shrugged. "Nothing.. It's nothing." She lied.

"Right..."

"I'm serious, it's really nothing. I'm just exhausted, that's all. Can I take a two hours' break please?"

"Half an hour."

"Oh come on... Please Dinah?" Vance begged.

Black Canary rolled her eyes. "Fine, but after that, we're gonna work on controlling your powers instead, okay?"

"Fine by me."

Vance stood up and grabbed her water bottle when Dick and Wally came walking into the training room. Wally waved at Vance who smiled back.

The two best friends walked over to their teammate.

"Just finished training with Black Canary?" Dick asked.

"Yeah, it's exhausting really."

"So... uh, have you seen Zatanna recently?"

"No not really.. Honestly, I'm worried about her. But I'm sure she's probably hanging out with Artemis, right?"

"Yeah of course.." Dick replied, smiling weakly.

Vance could tell Dick liked Zatanna and was absolutely worried about her. It was really obvious. To be really honest, Vance can definitely see Dick and Zatanna together.

"So, Vance. Dick and I are going to McDonald's for lunch, wanna hang?" Wally asked enthusiastically.

"Sure, just let me change first then we'll go."

"How on earth do you actually like their fish burger??" Dick in sunglasses asked Wally in disbelief.

The three teammates were standing in McDonald's, in front of a self ordering kiosk. It wasn't even a minute of ordering and Dick and Wally were already talking about fish burgers and whether they were good or not.

"Excuse you, their fish burger isn't as bad as you make it sound."

Dick sighed, "Vance, back me up here. Fish burger or McChicken?" Dick asked, turning to face Vance. Wally looked at Vance with an expression that screamed "You better take my side or else"

"Both? But I mean, their fish burger isn't that horrible, you know?" Vance shrugged.

Dick's jaw dropped whilst Wally grinned from ear to ear. "Thank you Vance!" Wally exclaimed, patting Vance on the back. "Told you, Dick." Wally smirked while Dick rolled his eyes.

Vance smiled, thinking about how lucky she was that she was in this team.

Just then, Wally spotted a robin on a tree branch outside of McDonald's.

"Hey Dick, is that your relative?" Wally smirked, pointing at the robin.

Dick turned to look at where Wally was pointing and rolled his eyes when he saw a robin. "Ha ha, very funny Wally."

Dick then pointed at two ketchup and mustard bottles. "Are those your relatives?"

"Yes." Wally said proudly.

Dick was completely speechless.
