"Amaru why bother come 2 school at all if ur gonna come at 11:40?" Ms. Joy the principle was at the front desk where the police officer usually stood, giving out detention slips. Ms.Joy was a very beautiful woman even at her age . She was milk chocolate with a divine figure and a face any young man would die 4.Her attitude was the reason she never married believing the only way to hold her own was 2 not have a man at all. Making her a bitter old lady 2 the students and the staff faculty eyes. " Hi Ms.Joy. I see ur the same as usual" Amaru lifted up a weary smile." U know Monday mornings can be rough" Ms.Joy frowned. " U have detention on Friday at 3 " she scowled at him. If Amaru was any other kid he wouldve gotten away without serving detention but after all the girls the school faculty caught him having sex with in the boys bathroom and not expelling him from Bare it was best to say he would be expected to attend. Ms.Joy couldn't suspend Amaru Davis, the track star, the only person on the track team who won any of his meets. Bare high was all about favoritism. If u played a sport and u played it well u could get away with just about anything. Amaru cleaned the blood that was stuck in between his nails. It was beyond him that his clothes didn't catch a drop of blood but his nails were stained with it. Stacy scared me 4 a minute, Amaru thought with little satisfaction .It just aint cool when Stace does it. He's suppose 2 be the church boy. Not everyone can be a thug. Ms.Joy handed him his detention slip written in cursive with Friday's date drew neatly on it. " Hey Amaru" a whisper called "come here" It was Ms.Ray, the school nurse. She was short and stubby woman who was always being accused of looking like the one of the students." whats up ms.ray"Amaru sighed in relief " u know I heard u got fired last week" "Ms.joy always spreading lies"Ms ray chuckled"well I'm still here and I'm worried about u and that Stacy" Amaru stopped her from what seemed 2 be an argument approaching. "relax Ms.Ray " he calmed her " were fine. Who u should be worried about is Anthony high ass" "I'm worried about u and ur mother" she huffed. " She's getting married pretty soon 2 some dumb nigga so we can keep our apartment. It's making me mad though, I mean her addiction and the fact she's forgotten about my Pops" Amaru told her. "Women cant stay loney forever. We have needs 2" she said. "I wish she was more like Ms. Joy, so that way she could stay loney for the rest of her life because the crack already made her bitter." Amaru slouched his shoulders in despair. "crack can do that 2 a woman. Make u fall short without realizing it" She tried 2 be sympathetic but Amaru was furious. How would u know? Amaru wanted 2 ask her. She never had 2 come home 2 a woman that was once her mother but now a complete stranger. She hadn't experienced the face of a woman that was once beautiful but now deteriorating from the drugs she was taking. U don't understand he thought as he stared into Ms.Ray's eyes. He could barely see her through the tears. U don't understand he wanted 2 scream in her face U wont ever understand.
Officer D'Angelou sighed as he entered the gates of Bare high school wishing that the student's 30 minute lunch break was longer. Officer D' Angelou didn't enjoy the school so he knew none of the kids enjoyed it either. Crawling with juvenile delinquents, Bare High stood one of the most dangerous schools in Florida. Every day some drugged kid came on campus with a gun. Alcohol and high amounts of marijuana were confiscated from students each day. Office D' Angelou sat outside every lunch period making sure no kids left school campus but it wouldn't stop them from doing it so why bother? He asked himself. Ms. Joy was in the front office at the spot D' Angelou usually sat after lunch and in the mornings. Why is she here?He groaned at the sight of the lady. Her voice ringing in his ear was expected to come. "why cant u do ur job?" she questioned the officer. bitch shut the fuck up! He thought 2 himself but he didn't have the least bit of heart to say out loud. "How do u explain this?" She continued 2 quiz him. She held up a clear plastic bag in front of him. Inside, was a white pill gushed in half. Orange liquid spewed out. There was a large label on the bag. "Essence" he and ms. Joy announced at the same time. "I caught a kid taking this in the main building during lunch. I suspended Anthony Thomas as soon as I saw it in his hand. U know what this is? It's-" "don't u remember u put me on outside patrolling 4 both lunches back in September" He reminded her "So how do u explain that?" He felt good 2 finally correct Ms. Know It All. She refused to believe that she made a mistake. "Anyways" she cleared her throat" the Essence drug is the one that was stolen out of that libratory in Hollywood so Anthony could get arrested if I wanted that" A wicked smile grew across her face. "but then I thought about it. He's probably not even gonna live past 17 so it doesn't matter" The front office door swung open and Stacy stepped in. "Along with this one who doesn't know what a diet is" Ms.Joy grimaced. " u don't have the authority to call those kinds of shots" D' Angelou told her. Officer D' Angelou stepped him aside and greeted him. There was something about Stacy's face that caught Officer D' Angelou attention as he put a hand over his shoulder." U been late too many times I might have 2 send social workers 2 ur house" "man I don't even care" The boy slurped. "stacy, u need 2 clean up ur act before u end up like every other boy at this school that wanted 2 be a thug. Dead or in jail" Stacy brushed past the police and trailed off without answering any further questions .Officer D' Angelou sighed rubbing his forehead I wished I got more money 2 deal with these fucking kids.
