KNB 15: The Buzzer

3rd Person POV

The girls body fell to the floor in time with the sound of the buzzer, her eyes shut and a smile gracing her lips. Her body was thrown across the court and the thud was almost as loud as the buzzer.

"Char-cchi!" Kise sprinted to Charlie where he fell to his knees and stroke back the hair that had fallen from her ponytail to see the blood covering her face.

"Both teams line up." The boys were forced to leave Charlie lying on the court to go line up.

"70-236, congratulations Kuroshiro on your win. Shake hands!"

The umpire squawked and the boys unwillingly shook hands, when they were finished they ran back to Charlie who had been carried to the bench by Murisakibara.

"What should I do with her? Aka-chin?"

"Put her in the changing rooms, we will see to her there."

Momoi grabbed onto Kuroko her eyes brimming with tears, "Will she be okay?"

"Of course Momoi-kun. It is Char-kun after all."

Murisakibara laid Charlie on a bench and Momoi and Midorima where instantly beside her with a medical kit, "How have they gotten away with this?" Midorima questioned Akashi.

"The umpire probably didn't see as we were all crowding around the hoop at the end, also our coach wasn't here as he was training with the rest of the team, therefore I was in charge of arrangements. Charlie herself said that," Akashi was cut off mid sentence, "I said I was okay with playing on a gamer rougher than usual. I'm okay don't worry."

Charlie went to sit up and was instantly passed out, her head landing on the bench with another thud. Momoi began to apply bandages to Charlie's head as Midorima applied plasters and bandages to her various injuries.

When they had finished mummifying Charlie, Midorima changed into his kit and Momoi put a pair of Murisakibara's spare tracksuits over Charlie's shorts and Aomine's top over Charlie's sports bra. Momoi even put her weights back on as she patted her tenderly on the head.

"Are we ready to go?" Akashi called, everyone nodded and they made their way outside, with Charlie on Aomine's back.

As the group left the gym and got into the fresh air they were met with a rare sight. Kagami Taiga hitting his head against a tree trunk, repeatedly.

"I'm a stupid dead man. Stupid dead man." He repeated as he continued his head butting.

"Kagami-kun? What's wrong?" Kuroko appeared next to kagami causing Kagami to jump into the air.

"I told you to stop doing that!" He shouted then having calmed down he explained his problem,"Charlie is a childhood friend and I know a lot of people who would kill me because I didn't save her."

"Taiga, what were you saving her from exactly? Could it be you didn't  tell us on purpose?" Akashi questioned, his arms crossed against his chest looking extremely angry.

"Oh no, you've got it all wrong. When I got taken off a Senpai told me what they did to either the strongest or weakest person on the team, destroy their love of basketball. I was taken off the court and banned from basketball club, I don't know what I'm going to do know."

"You are coming to Kuroshiro, Taiga. I will have a scholarship for you by the end of this term so you will transfer at the end. We look forward to seeing you there."

A horn blared in the distance and the basketball team recognising it as their coach ran off to catch it, leaving Kagami thoroughly confused as to what was going to happen to him.

- Meanwhile with the GOM -

"Kuroshiro basketball team listen up! We had a very good match today and apart from our one serious injury was anyone else injured during the game?" Akashi called across the coach.

A chorus of "no Captain" where replied apart from one.

"Akashi-kun we might have a problem with Char-kun." Kuroko appeared next to Akashi making everyone on the bus jump.

"Okay team, take this ride as a warm down. When we get back you will have 3 hours before I lock up our block." Akashi sat down on one of the front seats and signalled for Kuroko to sit next to him.

"Is this about how she was injured before the match in that fight she got into? If so then yes I remembered so my worry."

"Well that was one of my points but there is another: are you sure it is a good idea to get Kagami to join Kuroshiro? After all Charlie hates him, a lot."

"I have taken that into account Tetsuya, however to make sure that we don't make the same mistake as last time, where we stop playing as a team all together, we need someone who is strong and loves basketball unconditionally to make everyone more enthusiastic and remind them of their love of basketball."

Kuroko eyes flashed with doubt but he trusted Akashi, even if he had been betrayed before.

"Kuroko-kun we have a problem!" Momoi's voice rang across the coach and Kuroko and Akashi quickly walked down to the aisle to sit next to Momoi and Charlie.

"She keeps on twitching and muttering in American, I don't know if that's good or bad because I'm not that sure about what she's saying."

"Swap with me Satsuki."

Momoi quickly got up and sat in Akashi's seat next to Kuroko, who gave her a small worried to smile as if to calm her down.

"I have to play, you don't understand." Charlie began to shake her head as if trying to awake from a horrible dream and Akashi slowly stroked her head.

Charlie's breathing began to quicken, her hands scrunched into fists and suddenly her eyes were wide open and she was sitting bolt upright, grasping the chair in front of her and taking in deep breaths.

"Charlie?" Akashi tried to look her in the face but she swatted him away with one hand and then returned that hand to clasping over her heart as her breathing quickened and her legs started to tap an irregular rhythm.

"Charlie, calm down." Charlie looked at Akashi her face a picture of horror and terror.

"What am I?" She managed to wheeze out as her eyes closed and her body slumped back into her chair.
