Draco and I stood with the other students, watching as Voldemort strutted across the ruins of the courtyard, boasting that Harry Potter was dead.

"Harry Potter is dead." Voldemort laughed, sending shivers down my spine. "Now is the time to declare yourselves."

"Draco." Lucius called, eyes scanning the crowd of those on the side of good. Draco looked up at his father and hesitated, his hand gripping mine for comfort. "Don't be stupid, Draco."

"Come, Draco." Narcissa spoke softly, prompting Draco to begin walking. I followed beside him, not wanting to let him go. Of course, I would have to as Voldemort reached for and hugged Draco awkwardly. Then, he set his beady eyes on me,

"You," He hissed, raising his wand. "Dare defy orders I'd given to you?"

"I- no-" I tried to respond, but I was cut off as Voldemort's nail sunk into the flesh of my arm. He pulled me toward him and gestured for Draco to join his family.

"Filthy mudblood." Voldemort sneered, pressing the tip of his wand to my cheek. I tried not to scream, but I couldn't help it. Once he was finished, after a gruelling minute, he tossed me aside. The only thing I heard was Bellatrix's laughter as Draco ran to help me to my feet. I collapsed into his side and tried to walk with him and Narcissa, but I blacked out before we could reach the crowd of Death Eaters.

== Third Person POV ==

The Hogwarts students and professors winced as Desdemona screamed out. Most had assumed she had become a Death Eater like her boyfriend, but they had been sorely mistaken. When the girl finally stopped screaming, the students and professors were shocked to see Draco rushing to aid Desdemona.

He caught his weak girlfriend, shooting a rebellious glare at Voldemort's back. With the help of his mother, Draco and his family disapparated with Desdemona back to Malfoy Manor.

Once they arrived home, Narcissa and Lucius tasked themselves with cleaning up the manor, leaving Draco to tend to Desdemona. He carefully took the raven haired girl in his arms and carried her to his room. Setting the injured girl onto his comforter, Draco pulled his wand from his pocket and muttered a few healing spells, leaving the scars on her near perfect skin in case Voldemort survived the war.

After Desdemona's face relaxed out of a pained expression, Draco sank into a chair beside his bed. Leaning his head back, Draco heard the crumpling of paper in his pocket. He pulled the folded parchment from his front pocket, his eyes falling upon the familiar handwriting on the sealed letter.

Severus Snape, one of the best potions masters Hogwarts had ever seen, had written two letters before he was killed. One was addressed to his daughter, Desdemona Littlesea, and the other was addressed to Draco Malfoy.

With a soft sigh, Draco unfolded the parchment and began to read the familiar handwriting.

Draco,

It is with a heavy heart that I write you this letter. However, it is with a certainty that only a father knows that I tell you this; You have been a blessing to my daughter. I hope what I'm writing to you is a reassurance that despite what you may have done, what you may end up doing in my absence, you have been nothing but good and kind to Desdemona.

I want you to know that you have my blessing. Whether it be to marry Desdemona, or give her up so that she may live a better, safer life; you have my blessing. But I do have some conditions.

First, you must fulfil a promise to her I could not; you must promise to keep her safe at all costs. From this point forward, after my untimely death, I'd like to make sure my Desdemona is in capable hands. While this seems like a wild stipulation- after all, how can one keep Desdemona safe?- I can't have her falling back into the clutches of the unsafe muggle world.

Secondly, you mustn't let her be sad over me for too long. Let her mourn, of course, but don't let her hold on to the past. You and I both know she's good at hiding her own feelings, but help her to express them so she doesn't burn herself out.

And lastly, don't let her turn into her mother. Nova Littlesea may be legend in the Curse Breaking world, but she was anything but a legend with her family. Do not allow Desdemona to get that distant, vacant look in her eye, or allow her to be more excited about whatever work she chooses than her own family, one I am certain you will give her. Don't allow Desdemona to walk out of your life like Nova did to us.

I know you will make good on these requests, because I know the type of person you truly are, Draco. Take good care of my little girl, I have faith in you.

Severus Snape

Tears fell from Draco's cheeks, but he nodded, vowing to adhere to the conditions laid out by his late professor.

After reading the letter, Draco felt a million times better going through with his plan. He hadn't wanted to go behind the potion's master's back, but knowing that the professor would've been okay with it, he felt a sense of relief.

Draco glanced at the bedside table drawer, feeling his nerves build up again. He was planning on presenting Desdemona with a promise ring, and had been since before she was taken hostage by Voldemort and his aunt Bellatrix.

Narcissa Malfoy was cleaning up the fallen chandelier in her dining room when the patronus of Minerva McGonagall invaded her home, in search of her. The cat patronus stopped in front of Narcissa, tilting its head before relaying the message it was sent to deliver.

"Voldemort has been killed."The cat spoke in McGonagall's voice before running up the stairs to relay the message to Draco.

When Draco heard the news, he felt even more relief run through his veins. Finally, the nightmare he was living was over, and he could actually be happy with his girlfriend once again.

== Desdemona's POV ==

"Mona?" Draco's voice sounded muffled, and I struggled to hear him properly.

"Draco?" I asked, blindly reaching for him. His hand found mine as my eyes fluttered open.

"Hello, love." He smiled, pressing a kiss to my knuckles.

"What happened?" I questioned, taking in the all too familiar sights of Draco's bedroom.

"He's gone." Draco spoke softly.

"What?" I asked, shooting up from the bed.

"Easy, love." Draco chuckled. "Voldemort, he's dead."

"Don't lie to me, Draco." I begged him, clinging onto his hand.

"I would never lie to you, Mona." He reassured. I smiled widely, pulling Draco into a hug.

"He's actually gone?" I pressed. "He's never coming back?"

"He can't hurt you anymore, Mona. I promise." Draco smiled, hugging me twice as tight as I was hugging him.

"It's finally over." I cried into his shoulder.

"It's over, love." Draco nodded. After a few minutes in each other's arms, Draco let me go.

"I have something for you." He said, sounding nervous.

"Okay." I nodded. Draco reached into his bedside table and pulled out a velvet box. I gasped at the sight, meaning back slightly. "Draco..."

"We're too young for marriage. At least, that's what everyone is going to say." Draco said, propping open the box with a small smile. "So, this is a promise ring. I promise that one day I will put an even better ring on your finger and marry you."

Inside the velvet box was a beautiful silver ring with a single emerald in the center.

"If you'll let me, I'd like to make and keep this promise." Draco continued, pulling the ring from the box. I couldn't find words, so I nodded. Draco smiled and slid the beautiful ring onto my left ring finger.

"I love you." I mumbled, pulling him into a kiss.

"I love you, too." He said against my lips.
